Daily Scripture:“13 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” (Luke 11:13)Daily Reflection:A sailor was telling a small boy about the sea. He mentioned the wind. “What’s wind?” asked the little boy. “I don’t know what wind is,” replied the sailor, “but I know what it does when I raise a sail.”We now know a lot about how to chart the wind’s course, but we still can’t see it; we can only see what it does. So it is with God’s Spirit. We can’t see it; we can only see what it does in the lives of those who put their trust in God. And by asking through prayer we are lifting our sails to the winds of God’s wisdom and power.Lyn Hayes, ALM
Daily Scripture"1 The heavens are telling the glory of God;and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.2 Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night declares knowledge." (Psalm 19:1-2)Daily Reflection In this Psalm, King David’s mediation takes him from “creation” to “salvation”; it does so via “God’s word” (the scriptures) and a recognition of his own sinfulness. If you want to know about God: look around at the incredible display in nature! Look up to the heavens on a cloudless night; look at the intricate beauty of a flower when you go for a walk. That intricacy, that orderliness, that beauty, that vastness is the result of God’s work. To think otherwise means it is all a result of chance. As you go for a walk (maintaining social distancing!), open your eyes and see the beauty; see God revealing himself through nature. As you do so, learn about God’s power and recognise our own smallness and finiteness. And thank God.Revd David
Daily Scripture:‘Be still, and know that I am God!I am exalted among the nations,I am exalted in the earth' (Psalm 46:10)Daily Reflection:This Psalm refers to ‘trouble’, foaming waters, mountains trembling, kingdoms tottering. The writer stands firm in faith that God, ‘the Lord of hosts, is with us’ - not faith after rescue, but faith and hope while in trouble: ‘God is in the midst of the city; it shall not be moved; God will help it when the morning dawns’.The greater the crisis, the better to be still and to pray for hope and faith. David Evans wrote a fine hymn: ‘Be still, for the presence of the Lord, the holy one, is here… Be still, for the power of the Lord is moving in this place: he comes to cleanse and heal, to minister his grace. No work too hard for him, in faith receive from him. Be still…’David Harmsworth
Daily Scripture"Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive." (Colossians 3:13) Daily Reflection:That’s a lot of forgiving we need to be doing with one another!...... “Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.” Now you might well be thinking something like: “That’s all very well, but you don’t know what so-and-so did to me/said to me; they don’t deserve to be forgiven. I can never forgive them!” That is often the case; my guess though is that they have moved on. They might not even be aware of the hurt they have left behind. There are usually only two people who are still hurting because you are holding onto resentment, because you haven’t forgiven: that is you…… and God. This is the hardest thing we are called to do as Christians – to forgive someone who has hurt us. But remember: God will forgive you.Revd David
