At the back of church, you will find this year’s Advent Reflections, a daily reading and thought for each day. Please take a booklet for yourself and join with us and the Diocese as we journey through Advent together. There are extra copies if you wish to pass one on to a friend or neighbour. Advent Sunday Carols – On Sunday 28th November at 6.30 pm, we have been asked to host this event held by Churches Together in Fleetwood. There will be Advent readings, a reflection, prayers and carols to mark the beginning of the season. The music group from Emmanuel Fleetwood will provide some of the worship. Why not come and bring a friend with you? Phil Deegan – We’re delighted to have Phil join us on a placement at St Nicholas from Advent Sunday through until Easter. Phil is a Licensed Lay Minister and will be assisting in lots of different ways in the coming weeks. Do please take time to introduce yourself to Phil and Janet at the first opportunity. Fruit Trees – You may have noticed 5 new fruit trees have been planted in the grass outside the Broadway Rooms. We are sincerely grateful to Sandra and Derick Foulkes and Fleetwood Rotary who have gifted these to us. We are hoping eventually for a bumper crop of different fruits, which will be available for ourselves and the community, to ‘pick your own’. Relevant signage will be added in due course. Church Sitting – Now that the windows are finished, we want to be able to reopen the church for private prayer weekdays from 11.00 am to 12.30 pm from Monday 29 November. Can you offer to help us with this important ministry? Most folk who do church sit have said how much they look forward to 90 minutes of peace and quiet, reading and listening to the background music in the beautiful surroundings of the church. We need help to keep the church open for the community. Please see Karen Hay who is drawing up a new rota. Please remember in your prayers Jane, Jeanette, Heather, Alan Fleming, Gillian King, Eddie Gillon and John Wood whose needs at this time are known to God. And please pray too for Nick Evans, Marjorie Cornes, Mavis Wright and Doreen Nelson whose funerals are due to take place and for their families too.</span>

The meticulous planning has paid off and we think you will agree that it is money well spent. We have only been able to undertake this project of repair, in part, due to the generous legacy from the late Betty Smith in whose life this church played an important part. Legacies are one way of ensuring the future of the building. How important has St Nicholas Fleetwood been to us? Do we hope that it will continue to play an important part in the lives of those who come after us? A legacy in our wills could help to make that happen! St Nicholas Patronal Festival – On Sunday 5th December at 6.30 pm Bishop Julian will be our guest preacher and presider at a vigil to mark our Patron Saint. We have invited our friends from St Chad’s and St Hilda’s to join us, which will provide an opportunity to thank them for the financial support they have provided to us over the last three years. Please make a special effort to be with us as we celebrate all that we have achieved together and let’s show the Diocese that we’re very much alive and kicking! If you would like to come, but don’t have a lift then please just ask and we will arrange pick-ups and drops-offs. Advent Sunday Carols – On Sunday 28th November at 6.30 pm, we have been asked to host this event held by Churches Together in Fleetwood. There will be advent readings, a reflection, prayers and carols to mark the beginning of the advent season. The music group from Emmanuel Fleetwood will provide some of the worship. Please pass the word round. Remembrance Day - In addition to our own commemorations we have been invited to join St Christopher’s on Hawes Side Lane in the evening for a special act of remembrance. Sign up at the back of church if you would like to attend and we’ll organise car sharing. COP26 – We are all aware that this crucial climate summit is taking place in Glasgow right now. Many would say that COP26 is a make-or-break moment for our world. World leaders must seize the opportunity and act with urgency. Most importantly, they must put the world on course to limit global warming to 1.5°C. Every fraction of a degree matters. What can we do? First, it’s right and appropriate to lament the destruction and injustice of the climate crisis, to recognise where we, as individuals, nations, businesses and the church, have fallen short and to repent of our part in it. Second, we can pray – for those already impacted by the crisis and for world leaders to recognise the need to take immediate action. Prayer is crucial if we’re to see a breakthrough in this crisis, and God is powerful beyond anything we can imagine. Third, we can also make changes in our own lives, such as reducing our energy consumption and our waste, and thinking more carefully about what we buy. When we show by our actions that we want to live in a fairer, more sustainable world, we are caring for our global neighbours and valuing what God has given us. 100 Club: Winners last week were Muriel Freestone, Berny McCarthy, and Sarah Quirk Please add to your prayers: Jane, Jeanette, Heather, Gillian King, Eddie Gillon and John Wood whose needs at this time are known to God. And please pray too for Mavis and Charles Evans and friends of their son Nick who died this week. God be in my head, and in my understanding; God be in mine eyes, and in my looking; God be in my mouth, and in my speaking; God be in my heart, and in my thinking; God be at mine end, and at my departing.
