Lots of forward planning, prayer and pulling together went in to making it happen and we are so very grateful to all who were involved in any way!Today – We celebrate the beginning of Advent. Many of us know that the Advent season focuses on expectation and that it serves as an anticipation of Christ’s birth in the season leading up to Christmas. This is part of the story, but there’s more to Advent. We also tie Advent, not just to the coming of Christ in the manger in Bethlehem, but to his second coming in the clouds as the judge of the world. Advent is then an opportunity for self-reflection, a casting off from all that distracts us and distances us from God’s plans, for us as individuals and for his Church. May you be richly blessed in the period of preparation.God of Salvation, Wake us up Lord! The night is nearly over. Let us continue our Adventjourney. Move us from our lives of greed and selfishness, from our globalised world ofinequality and exploitation, to your kingdom of righteousness and mercy to a transformedworld, where peace is built on understanding not weapons, the poor are empowered to livetheir lives to the full, businesses are built on need not greed and your Creation is nurturednot abused. Wake us up Lord! Let us live as people of the light. Amen.100 Club – Winners last week were David Meekins, Mandy Ryan and Barbara Quirk. After appearing in London’s Punch magazine, it soon become a popular reflection on the sacrifice of war. McCrae's focus was on the peace that follows death, from the perspective of fallen soldiers lying in their graves. In Flanders fields the poppies blow between the crosses, row on row, that mark our place; and in the sky the larks, still bravely singing, fly scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago, we lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, loved, and were loved, and now we lie in Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: to you from failing hands we throw the torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die we shall not sleep, though poppies grow in Flanders fields.Date for your diary: Saturday 26th November at 10.00 am we will be holding our Advent Messy Church. The scaffolding has been adjusted to enable the next stage of repairs to commence this coming week. It will include the removal and replacement of some of the copper sheets, which will involve much knocking and banging, therefore, until further notice the church will not be open for private prayer mid-week. The banging will cease for our Tuesday communion! We are so very grateful to the band of helpers who diligently sit each morning to make the church available to the community. If this is something you can help with going forward, then please see Karen.Larkholme School: Is setting up a Christmas Shop to enable the parents of their pupils who are on a limited budget to buy gifts, toys, stationery, puzzles, and games for a small donation. If you are able to buy a small gift when you are out and about and pop it unwrapped in the box at the back of church – we’ll make sure it gets to school in good time for this super initiative. Sincere thanks.Christmas Fair 3rd December 10-2 pm: At the back of church there is a list of ways you can help, before, after and during the Fair, please sign up this week.
