The scaffolding has been adjusted to enable the next stage of repairs to commence this coming week. It will include the removal and replacement of some of the copper sheets, which will involve much knocking and banging, therefore, until further notice the church will not be open for private prayer mid-week. The banging will cease for our Tuesday communion! We are so very grateful to the band of helpers who diligently sit each morning to make the church available to the community. If this is something you can help with going forward, then please see Karen.Larkholme School: Is setting up a Christmas Shop to enable the parents of their pupils who are on a limited budget to buy gifts, toys, stationery, puzzles, and games for a small donation. If you are able to buy a small gift when you are out and about and pop it unwrapped in the box at the back of church – we’ll make sure it gets to school in good time for this super initiative. Remembrance Sunday: Next week as in previous years, we will enact our own mark of remembrance during the 10.45 service. The service at the cenotaph in the Memorial Park will commence at 10.45 also and is being led by our very own Phil Deegan. God of justice and peace, we pray for those who have been injured or disabled through war.For those who have lost homes and security through conflict; for those who have lost loved relatives in wars; for those who face danger and take risks for peace; for all those, especially children, caught up in current conflicts; for refugees and all those in need of aid and other help. God of encouragement and Saviour of the despairing, comfort those who remember past sacrifices and guide us in building a just and peaceful community for all. It is a reminder of our connectedness as Christians to the church and our conviction that there is a spiritual connection between those in Heaven and on Earth. Whilst on All Souls’ Day in the Church of England we remember our loved ones and all the faithful departed, on All Saints’ there is more of a focus on saints and martyrs, known and unknown, whose faith and example have been passed on to us through the ages.All Souls: On Wednesday 2nd November at 12 noon, we will be holding a service of Holy Communion during which we will be marking All Souls, also known as the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed. There is a sheet at the back of church for you to append the name(s) you wish to be remembered. Come Dine with the Vicar – Thank you to the twenty guests who attended the Vicarage over three events and gave generously to the roof fund. Massive shout out and grateful thanks to Judith whose idea it was and who delivered a sumptuous feast on each occasion. We raised a fabulous £770. For those of you who were a little apprehensive (like the Vicar), to sign up this time, we can assure you that it was delightful in every aspect. So, watch this space for further events!! A message from the Christmas Fair Team: The Fair will take place on Saturday 3rd December from 10.00 am – 2.00 pm. We are inviting more stalls, up to 20 from local outside businesses to join us in selling their goodies. Our main focus will be our Christmas Café, the Annual Grand Raffle and our Bottle-bola etc. So once again we need your help. On Sunday the day started with our usual round of services. The 10.45 service was packed with lots of new faces including our Rainbow Pack, families, leaders and helpers. The church looked beautiful, thanks to all your gifts of produce and Carole’s fabulous Harvest flower arrangements. Phil delivered the sermon with help from “Arthur and Grandad,” (Phil and David our gifted puppeteers). Countless folk have commented on how much they enjoyed the mix of fun, fellowship and reverence as we worshipped together, giving thanks to God for the abundance of the Harvest and the blessings we have received.Following the service many of us joined together for a roast dinner and Harvest Auction in the Broadway Rooms. Hats off and massive thanks to Tim, ably assisted by Judith, who together produced an amazing meal for 40 people and also to Joanne and David who set up the dining room so beautifully and arranged the hampers and gifts for the auction. Hours of work and preparation go on behind the scenes to make these events run smoothly and we are forever grateful to all who contribute in any way to the life of God’s Church here at St Nic’s. The proceeds from Harvest Sunday amounted to £475 and will be sent to the Diocese in support of the Bishop’s Harvest Appeal, which this year is supporting the work of the Mothers’ Union Literacy and Numeracy Project in Burundi.Are you confirmed?
