The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.Psalm 27 : 1 & 14Readings this week Isaiah 2 : 1 – 5; Romans 13 : 11 - end; Matthew 24 : 36 – 44Some thoughts for this weekWe’re off! The countdown has begun. Advent is here and today we begin a journey of hope, love, joy and peace and we wait and prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus and look forward to when Christ returns again. Inevitably our thoughts will steam ahead to the 25 December as we prepare for Christmas Day. But what if we did things a little differently this year? Perhaps we can use this Advent time to focus and reflect on the wonder of the coming of God’s Grace and love in the person of Jesus so that we are prepared to welcome Jesus on Christmas Day and celebrate with immense joy. With so much to do between now and Christmas Day we don’t need to load more upon ourselves but perhaps there are just one or two things we could do in this waiting time. Perhaps, beginning today, we could read a chapter of Luke’s gospel (24 chapters), or maybe spend 10-15 minutes in quiet, resting in the love of God. May this season of Advent be filled with blessings as we wait and prepare for the coming of Emmanuel - God with us. RachelPrayer for this weekLord of Advent, Lord of all hopefulness, this is the time of your coming, this is the season of your arrival. Give us a defiant hope that triumphs over pessimism and despairing attitudes, that believes you have come to save your people, your world, your creation. In this moment light a fire in our hearts that will not be quenched Until your work is done. Amen.Almighty God, as your kingdom dawns, turn us from the darkness of sin to the light of holiness, that we may be ready to meet you in our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. We praise the Lord and give thanks …For everyone who will come to our churches over the Advent and Christmas periods. May Jesus bless themFor all those who have gone before us in faith and the love of Jesus

Then he said, ‘Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.’ He replied, ‘Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise.’ Luke 23 : 42 -- 43Readings this week Jeremiah 23 : 1 - 6; Colossians 1 : 11 - 20; Luke 23 : 33 - 43Some thoughts for this weekThis Sunday is known as ‘Christ the King Sunday'. It comes before journey of Advent, when we remember the sovereignty of Jesus, His greatness and majesty over all things. How he is the Lord of lords who came to us in such humility, and revealed His love.As we proclaim the Kingdom of Jesus, the world is in such turmoil. We might ask questions of our leaders, those who are set in authority, those who call us to follow, of their commitment to justice and peace. It is good to reflect on the servant Kingship of Jesus, and the challenge to each of us to follow faithfully and prayerfully, and lay aside all that is not of Jesus’ Kingship. Three years ago Rev Stella wrote : “On the cross, Jesus doesn't look much like a king. But the penitent thief recognises him, and so do all those who look to him to be led out of the trials and limitations of this world.Christ is our King; the King of the whole world. He is King in all those places where he seems least evident, in the Sudan, the Ukraine, Gaza and Israel. (updated) But also in places where his wisdom, justice and righteousness flourish. May the Church be a beacon of His just kingdom” Revs Stella and PaulPrayer for this weekEternal Father, whose Son Jesus Christ ascended to the throne of heaven that he might rule over all things as Lord and King: keep the Church in the unity of the Spirit and in the bond of peace, and bring the whole created order to worship at his feet; who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. AmenGod the Father, help us to hear the call of Christ the King and to follow in his service, whose kingdom has no end; for he reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, one glory. AmenWe praise the Lord and give thanks …For our faithful prayer ministryFor our visiting ministryFor the season of Advent as a time of reflection and listening to the LordFor our involvement with our community as we approach Advent
