Through Lent and Passiontide to the glorious celebrations of Easter Day and we have much to give thanks for here at St Nicholas. I am personally grateful to everyone who has given so generously of their time and gifts, to ensure that our packed program of services and events have been delivered and to an extraordinarily high standard. We have welcomed new people and families during this period and this is exactly what we’re here for, as we seek to be witnesses, inspire children and young people and transform our community. Lord God, You loved this world so much, that you gave your one and only Son, that we might becalled your children too. Lord, help us to live in the gladness and grace of Easter Sunday, every day.Let us have hearts of thankfulness for your sacrifice. Let us have eyes that look upon your graceand rejoice in our salvation. Help us to walk in that mighty grace and tell your good news to the world. All for your glory do we pray, Lord, Amen.Dear friends, hold on to the hope that no matter what lies ahead, Christ has conquered the grave. And by conquering the grave He has given us new life for now and eternity to come. Let your hearts be glad, shout with joy and celebrate this great day. Easter is here, and so is new life and hope. With love and Easter blessings to you and yours as we journey on together.

Stocks are seriously low. Donations can be placed in the box at the back of church and we’ll make sure they get to the Pantry. Many thanks.Lent Study 5: On Wednesday we were in the company of the prophet Daniel. Even in danger and under persecution, he kept praying and adhered to the practices and disciplines of his faith, and that was what saw him through. So, we thought about the need for constant prayer. We concluded with an exercise in which we were invited to set our own Rhythm of Prayer. Week 5 was our final study together for now. This coming Wednesday we will come together in Church as we commemorate Jesus' last day on earth, moving through the stations of the cross.Easter day lunch: Everyone is welcome to join us for lunch and some Easter fun after the 10.45 service. It’s a bring and share lunch, or Jacob’s Join, so if you are able to bring something to share, please jot it down on the list at the back of Church. We could do with some easter eggs and chocolate for prizes if you have any hanging around!Sunset and Sunrise: We join with Churches Together in Fleetwood for both of these short outdoor services. Following sunset on Good Friday it is our tradition to have fish and chips back at the Baptist Church and after sunrise, breakfast back at Emmanuel Church. Come if you can, it’s only once a year!Service of Hope: At 6 pm on Easter day. This is a service to remember those who we love but see no longer. Our friends at Emmanuel Church on the Mount are hosting this and are keen for us to go and to take with us anyone who we feel might benefit from some support. Please also remember in your prayers: Martyn Westby, Brian Brown, Louise Gorley, Mark Price, Michael Carthy, Paul Sumner, Sandra Pratt, Michael, Chris Kelsall, Tracey Ashworth, Philip Wayman, and Chris Cousins. We also remember the families of Terry Davies, Margaret Levett, Jacqueline Burman, Charles Evans and Frank Wetherley whose funerals are due to take place.

We will continue our celebrations over a Jacob’s Join lunch in the Broadway Rooms on Easter Sunday. We would be sincerely grateful if you might consider donating any items of chocolate or Easter eggs to be used as prizes on the day. Lent Study 4: On Wednesday we were in the company of Esther. Finding herself as Queen of Persia, she was courageous enough to intervene to save her people. In so doing she was strengthened by the prayers of her community. We thought about the power and comfort of communal prayer and joined together in the ancient office of Compline, which derives its name from a Latin word meaning ‘completion’. It is above all a service of quietness and reflection before the end of the day and is particularly special when prayed communally. Reasons for Covering Statues: One of the primary reasons for covering the statues in church with purple shrouds is to encourage us to focus on spiritual reflection by removing any distractions. The act of covering statues serves as a visual reminder of the solemnity of this season. But it also serves to create a sense of anticipation for the joyous celebrations of Easter. By temporarily concealing the statues and crosses, we are underscoring the idea of waiting and preparing for the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM): A reminder that the APCM will take place in Church on Tuesday 13th May at 7 pm. Please save the date, especially if you are now registered on the electoral roll of St Nic’s. There are three vacancies coming up on the church council. If you feel called to serve on the leadership team of the church, please speak to the Vicar.100 Club Winners in March: Muriel Freestone, Chris Ashworth, Margaret Kershaw, Carol Newton, Pat Warrington, Kath Greatorex, Ruth Aspinall, Sue Dell, Bernice Meekins, Carole Pilling, Jeannette Norman, Kerry Connelly, Daniel Ashworth and Margaret Forshaw. Thank you for those of you who support the ongoing ministry of the church in this way. Please also remember in your prayers: Martyn Westby, Brian Brown, Louise Gorley, Mark Price, Michael Carthy, Paul Sumner, Sandra Pratt, Michael, Chris Kelsall, Tracey Ashworth, Philip Wayman, and Chris Cousins. We also remember the families of Terry Davies, Muriel Kelly, Margaret Levett, Jacqueline Burman, Charles Evans and Frank Wetherley whose funerals are due to take place.

Come and join us and be sure to start working on your bonnet!School Governor Opportunity: We have two schools that sit within our parish boundary, Shakespeare and Charles Saer. They are both primary schools and the Vicar works hard to maintain a good relationship with them both. The head teacher at Charles Saer has approached St Nic’s to enquire if anyone would be willing to become a trustee on their board of governors. If you have been a governor or you have a background in education or you’re just interested to find out more, please speak to the Vicar. It really is a super way to serve our young people and our community. Please also remember in your prayers: Martyn Westby, Brian Brown, Louise Gorley, Mark Price, Michael Carthy, Paul Sumner, Sandra Pratt, Michael, Chris Kelsall, Tracey Ashworth, Philip Wayman, Primrose, Chris Cousins and Rob.
