Sunday 10th April - Palm Sunday 8.30 am Holy Communion in Church 9.30 am Worship via Zoom 10.45 am Holy Communion in Church Sides persons – Susan & Christine; Reader – Joy Passiontide – is the name for the last two weeks of Lent. It begins today on the 5th Sunday of Lent. The second week of Passiontide is Holy Week, ending on Holy Saturday. A beautiful tradition unfolds at this time whereby statues and other sacred images are veiled in church, (big thanks to Trudie for organising this for us). The crosses are veiled because Christ during this time no longer walked openly among the people but hid himself. The veiling also has the effect of making Easter Day that much more dramatic when the veils are finally lifted. Holy Week and Easter – The dates and times of everything that’s happening are printed on a yellow sheet at the back of church and also available on our website. Please invite your neighbours and friends to join us at some point over the next two weeks. Statistics say that one in five people would come to church if someone invited them! That means you may have to ask five times before your invitation is accepted. Good Friday Messy Church is great for families with children on holiday from school. Jacobs Join lunch and fun on Easter Sunday is also a great time for us to be together. Hope you can come. Please pop your name on the sheet at the back of church and choose what you could bring for lunch. Blessed are you Lord God of our salvation, to you be praise and glory for ever. As a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief, your only Son was lifted up that he might draw the whole world to himself. May we walk this day in the way of the cross and be ready to share its weight, declaring your love for all the world. Blessed be God for ever. Ukraine - We continue to pray for the country and people of Ukraine as they face the aggression of the armies of the Russian Federation. God of peace and justice, we pray for the people of Ukraine today. We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons. We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow, that your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them. We pray for those with power over war or peace, for wisdom, discernment, and compassion to guide their decisions. Above all, we pray for all your precious children, at risk and in fear, that you would hold and protect them. We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Amen 100+ Club - Winners last week were Nancy Burr, David Meekins and Dorothy Cox. Please remember in your prayers – Fr Ron, Rev Jane Everitt, Heather, Jenny, Jillian Muir, Tony Hardman Eddie Gillon, Rev Martin Keighley, & Gillian King. We’ll need lots of help to welcome and look after our guests. On Easter Sunday following our worship at 1 pm we are having a Jacob’s Join Lunch and Easter Bonnet Parade. Again, everyone is welcome. Invite your family and friends and neighbours to be our guests for lunch and to spend some quality time and fun together on Easter Day. Alpha – A massive big thanks to everyone who has helped to deliver and who has attended Alpha over the last 12 weeks. We have served over 400 cooked breakfasts, received 8 hours of inspirational teaching on being disciples of Christ, we’ve been away for a day together where amongst other things we enjoyed lunch and an abundance of homemade cakes and biscuits. We’ve shared our stories and bared our souls and we’re ready for the next part of our faith journey. There will be another chance in the future to do Alpha if you missed out this time! Its mission is to break the cycle of deprivation and empower today's children to become contributing members of society. The most significant barrier facing some of the children in Fleetwood is the financial position of their parents. This is why BHY provide all of its services completely free of any monetary charge. As a church we have worked hard and prayed hard for the last two and half years to bring BHY to Fleetwood. So now, the revised planning application to build a new arm of this Youth Centre in the grounds of St Nicholas is with Wyre Council. There is an opportunity for each one of us to register our support for the project. I would encourage you to take a few minutes to send a letter of support to the planning department of Wyre Council. Alternatively complete an online ’comment’ of support. You can do this by typing “Wyre Council planning application search” into Google, click on Planning applications, then click on “search and view planning applications.” Enter 21/00910/FUL and hit search. Heavenly Father, we embrace Your call for us to make disciples, to be witnesses, to grow leaders and inspire children and young people. Give us eyes to see Your vision, ears to hear the prompting of Your Spirit and courage to follow in the footsteps of your Son, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen. I encouraged you only last week, to pray continually. So, what do you answer when as a Christian leader or otherwise, you are’ asked “Where is God in the Ukraine conflict? What’s the point of praying when it is obvious that God does not intervene?” You may even have asked the same yourself. These are big questions to try to answer here, but it is my belief that God can be found in the midst of the turmoil of the past few weeks, but he is not to be found in the hearts and minds of those who leash untold horror upon innocent people. I think we can glimpse the love of God expressed in the kindness of the individuals and nations who have offered succour to refugees, in the generosity of people of all countries who have contributed gifts great and small. Perhaps it might also help to reflect on Adam and Eve and see that God created a world to have moral freewill rather than a world over which he would dominate. The Ukrainian disaster is not God’s fault: it’s humanity’s! So let us continue to pray to God our Heavenly Father who weeps with us …. Loving God, we pray for the people of Ukraine, for all those suffering or afraid, that you will be close to them and protect them. We pray for world leaders, for compassion, strength and wisdom to guide their choices. We pray for the world that in this moment of crisis, we may reach out in solidarity to our brothers and sisters in need. May we walk in your ways so that peace and justice become a reality for the people of Ukraine and for all the world. Amen. 100+ Club - Winners last week were Judith Crosby, Muriel Freestone and Derek Warrington Please remember in your prayers – Fr Ron, Rev Jane Everitt, Heather, Jillian Muir, Eddie Gillon, Rev Martin Keighley, & Gillian King.
