We were asked to start thinking about what it means to live in love and faith together as a Church? The national church has been exploring these questions in depth for some time and as flagged up on this newsletter previously, the discussion at deanery level will take place on Saturday 14th May. St Nicholas is hosting the gathering in the Broadway Rooms starting at 9.45 am and ending by 4 pm. We will be joined by our brothers and sisters in Christ from Poulton, Cleveleys and Thornton to undertake a day of input, videos and discussion. We have managed to condense six evening sessions into one day! It is important that we engage with this topic as the outcomes, whatever they are, will have far reaching consequences for the Church of England going forward. Please consider giving up your Saturday to join us. There’s a sign-up sheet at the back of church. Drinks and refreshments will be provided but please bring your own packed lunch. O Holy Spirit, giver of light and life, impart to us thoughts higher than our own thoughts and prayers better than our own prayers, and powers beyond our own powers, that we may spend and be spent in the way of love and goodness, after the perfect image of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. 100 Club - Winners last week were Ruth Aspinall, Cath/Jeff Chambers, and Mavis Evans. It was a joy to welcome families and connections we’ve made through Little Gang to Messy Church on Good Friday and to continue our Easter Day Celebrations well into the afternoon with fun and food and fellowship. It has to be said that the Church goes a little crazy at Easter, having spent 40 days in Lent taking a hard look at our sins, we go wild with bells, lilies, trumpets, song, and “alleluias” proclaiming our joy that God, in raising Jesus from the dead, will also raise us to eternal life “on the last day”. But...come Monday morning, most of us church folk pack up our “alleluias” and go back to our so-called life, the one we mostly sleep-walk through, just making do, as though death had won after all. Here’s the thing. The love that brought Jesus back from death on that first Easter morning, is pouring down on all of us, every moment, every day, so that we can truly live, here and now, beyond the deadness of guilt, shame, fear, boredom, despair, hate, whatever. We can’t earn it, buy it, steal it, demand it, or deserve it. Easter proclaims again a God who cannot help but adore each one of us. No matter what. And because God is God, he gets to say how love works. So, let’s live the joy of Easter Day every day. Yes, life can be hard, it can be challenging and at times heart breaking, but Jesus’ resurrection changed everything, we are loved and love always wins!! Alleluia, Christ is risen. He is risen indeed, Alleluia. 100 Club - Winners last week were David Meekins, Paula Meekins and Nancy Burr. I used to wonder why we read this on Palm Sunday, a day of rejoicing and jubilation as we remember Jesus riding into Jerusalem amid throngs of cheering people. Perhaps you’ve wondered too? The passion of Jesus, by that we mean the suffering of Jesus in his final days on earth, is usually read twice in our liturgy: once on Palm Sunday, when the account is taken from one of the synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark or Luke), and again on Good Friday, when John’s Gospel is proclaimed. On Palm Sunday, the liturgy is like an overture for all of Holy Week: At the beginning of our worship today, palms will be blessed and a short Gospel will be read describing Jesus’ triumphal entrance into Jerusalem riding on a donkey. The liturgy for Palm Sunday begins in triumph, but quickly, there looms the shadow of the cross. In fact, the joy of Christ’s followers on the first Palm Sunday was short-lived. So if you’re in church today and don’t return until next Sunday, then at least you will have heard the Passion read! Let us walk this week together with our Lord to the cross and beyond and let us remember the miracle of His resurrection and His endless love. 100+ Club - Winners last week were Nancy Burr, David Meekins and Dorothy Cox.
