Roof Repairs – We have entered into the 28-day period of public notice required for the pending repairs to the church roof. We have obtained quotes to replace the existing flashings and to repoint some of the stonework on the tower with a view to halting any further water ingress. The total cost will be somewhere in the region of £53,000 of which we have £23,000. Whilst we are working hard to raise some of the balance through potential grants, we will need to come together as a church family with imaginative fund-raising ideas and events. We’re hoping to have the work done before the winter sets in. If you think you can help in anyway, please speak to a member of the PCC or the Vicar. Any on-line donations will be directed towards the roof fund. You can do this via the "Donate to St Nicholas Church" tab on this website. Father's Day – Today is Father’s Day as it is held on the third Sunday of June annually. It is a day to honour fathers and father figures, such as grandfathers and fathers-in-law. Many people make a special effort to visit their fathers or to send them a card or gift. So, we wish all who are Fathers a happy day full of love and surprises. We are mindful though, as we are with all these celebrations that it won’t be a great day for some folk for countless different reasons. Nevertheless, it’s good to acknowledge those who have been and are great Father figures. Heavenly Father, you entrusted your Son Jesus, the child of Mary, to the care of Joseph, an earthly father. Bless all fathers as they care for their families. Give them strength and wisdom, tenderness and patience; support them in the work they have to do, protecting those who look to them, as we look to you for love and salvation, through Jesus Christ our rock and defender. Amen. 100 Club - Winners last week were Alma Wright, Sue Dell and Margaret Forshaw Please remember in your prayers – Rev Jane Everitt, Tony and Maureen Hardman, Rev Martin Keighley, Gillian King, Harry Pendlebury, Edna Jenkins and Fiona. And also, the families of Jean Houghton, Margery Barry, Eva Kenyon and Lloyd Makin whose funerals are due to take place.

Although the word “trinity” does not appear in Scripture, it is taught in Matthew 28:18-20 and 2 Corinthians 13:14 and many other bible passages. The concept of the trinity can never be completely understood or rationalized, but it is clearly taught in Scripture. It is appropriate that this mystery is celebrated on the first Sunday after Pentecost, when the outpouring of the Holy Spirit first occurred. On Trinity Sunday we try to explain, to the best of our ability, the clues written in Scripture which guide us to a fuller understanding of our triune God. The Father is God from the beginning (John 1:1); Jesus revealed Himself as equal to the Father in John 10:30, “I and the Father are one.” Together, they sent the Holy Spirit (John 14:26). “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19). God for us, we call You Father, God alongside us, we call You Jesus, God within us, we call You Holy Spirit. Greeting Cards – We have been generously gifted a selection of handmade cards which are now on display at the back of church. We suggest a minimum donation of £1/card and funds raised from their sale will be put towards our pending roof repairs. Phil’s Licensing – During the 10.45 service on Sunday 26th June, Phil will be licensed as a Lay Minister to St Nicholas Church by the Warden of Lay Ministry, Mrs Ruth Haldane. Immediately following the service, we are having a Jacob’s Join lunch in the hall to officially welcome Phil (and Janet). Please save the date and on the day if you are able, bring a plate of something to share! 100 Club - Winners last week were June Young, Sarah Quirk and Freda Wayman Please remember in your prayers – Rev Jane Everitt, Tony Hardman, Rev Martin Keighley, Gillian King, Alison Horobin, Harry Pendlebury, Edna Jenkins, Margaret McMillan and Berny McCarthy. It is a major feast of the Church’s year when we recall how God’s Holy Spirit was given to the disciples after Jesus’ ascension, empowering them to begin the work of making disciples of all nations. Jesus had promised his followers that, although they would not see him after his Ascension, they would receive the Holy Spirit to guide and inspire them. The Acts of the Apostles describes how the crowds gathered in Jerusalem – representing many nationalities and speaking many languages – were able to hear the disciples preaching in their own language. The colour most often associated with Pentecost is red, representing the tongues of fire which the Acts of the Apostles describes appearing above the heads of the disciples as a sign that they had received the Holy Spirit. It is the same Holy Spirit who empowers us today to be the people of God in this place and at this time. Without the Holy Spirit we can do nothing. Breathe in me O Holy Spirit that my thoughts may all be holy; Act in me O Holy Spirit that my works, too, may be holy; Draw my heart O Holy Spirit that I may love that which is holy. Strengthen me O Holy Spirit to defend all that is holy; Guard me then O Holy Spirit that I always may be holy. Her Majesty the Queen has rightly been globally praised for doing an outstanding job since she came to the throne at the age of 25. And for 70 years she’s done her work as Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, and Supreme Governor of the Church of England with amazing diligence, great grace, astute intelligence, deep humility, and tremendous effectiveness. Where does all that come from – the clarity of vision, the stamina, the steadfastness in duty and care? What has shaped and sustained this remarkable stateswoman? While we know very little about what she thinks about a whole host of issues, she has been extraordinarily clear about where her guiding principles come from. Her answer can be summed up in one word: Jesus. It is, as she testifies, Jesus’ teaching that has shaped her, Jesus’ example that has inspired her, and Jesus’ power that has enabled her to do the job God called her to do. As we celebrate our servant Queen, we look with her to Jesus our servant King, as we seek to discern his plan for our lives and for his Church. ‘…..the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.’ Our celebrations started as we joined the fabulous ‘Britannia’ concert in church on Saturday afternoon, hosted by Healthier Fleetwood. The bank holiday weather isn’t looking great at this point so we’re going to play it safe! Our Thursday morning Community Coffee will have a Jubilee Theme. Even if you don’t usually attend, why not come along and join the celebrations? On Saturday we will join the event at Marine Gardens starting at 12 noon. Bring something to sit on and a picnic! And following the 10.45 service on Sunday we will toast the queen with a celebratory cake and some fizz together. Almighty God, whose son Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace; Grant that, as we celebrate the earthly reign of your servant Elizabeth our Queen, so through her example of faith and self–giving, we your people may come to know the fulness of your power and glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. 100 Club - Winners last week were Ann Turner, Barbara Quirk and Sarah Quirk.
