It is the week leading up to Easter Sunday during which we will honour the acts of Jesus in the days before His crucifixion. Holy Week is also known as Passion Week or as the Great Week in Greek. Attached to this news sheet is a list of all that is happening between Palm Sunday and Easter Day. Try if you can to take in at least some of the events of Holy Week either with us in Church on by yourself at home. If you don’t, you could end up enjoying the celebration of Palm Sunday and the resurrection on Easter Sunday but miss the passion of the cross in the middle. It is critical that we go forth into Holy Week remembering all that our Lord endured and why He allowed it. Let’s not be sucked into the treadmill of familiarity this Easter, but recommit ourselves to Jesus our Lord and Saviour as we journey with him to the cross and beyond. Please, Lord, guide my mind with your truth. Strengthen my life by the example of Jesus. Help me to be with Jesus in these coming holy days as he demonstrates again his total love for me. He died so that I would no longer be separated from you. Help me to feel how close you are and to live in union with you. Amen. Please remember in your prayers: Tony Ryan, Louise Clark, Rev Martin Keighley, Mark Price, Craig Abson, Peter Holden, Alan Morris, Dean, Rev Jane Everett, Paul Sumner, Chloe and Chris Shuttleworth. Please also remember the families and friends of, Georgina Johnstone, Bob Cameron, Harry Snasdell, Poul Terpet, Margaret Barlow, Lillian Kelly and Ronald Shewan whose funerals are due to take place.

One year on and the vision has become a reality. There is still a way to go but completion of the build is due by the middle of May. That said, this coming week sees that start of some major ground works as rain water drainage systems are sunk into the ground and the new car parking areas are formed. It will involve fencing off all our existing parking facilities for a good few weeks. We appreciate that this will cause some further inconvenience and we are so grateful for your ongoing patience. Please bear with us for this final push to the finish line. Church Sitting: Church Sitting is an important ministry and enables us to open St Nic’s every week day morning from 11.00 am to 12.30 pm. We are so very grateful to those of you who help make this happen. Whilst we are not inundated with visitors, people who do pop in find great solace and peace. Are you able to offer 90 minutes every other Monday to help keep Church open? If so, please see Karen as soon as possible. Mothering Sunday: Today at the 10.45 service we will welcome members of Family & Co to join us for worship. Like many traditions, Mothering Sunday began with a religious purpose. Held on the fourth Sunday in Lent, exactly three weeks before Easter Sunday, it was originally a day to honour and give thanks to the Virgin Mary, also known as Mother Mary. Such celebrations required people to visit their 'mother' church - the main church or cathedral in a family's area. It was believed to be essential for people to return to their home 'mother' church to make it a true family honoured occasion. The gatherings reunited families and gave children who worked as domestic servants or as apprentices away from home the opportunity to have the day off to join their family and see their mother. Loving God, thank you for mums and children and for all the joy of family life. Be with those who are grieving because they have no mother; Be close to those who are struggling because they have no children; Be near to those who are sad because they are far apart from those they love. Let your love be present in every home, and help your church to have eyes to see and ears to hear the needs of all who come. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Please remember in your prayers: Tony Ryan, Louise Clark, Rev Martin Keighley, Mark Price, Craig Abson, Peter Holden, Alan Morris, Dean, Rev Jane Everett, Paul Sumner and Chloe. Please also remember the families and friends of, Georgina Johnstone, Bob Cameron, Robert Snasdell and Ronald Shewan whose funerals are due to take place.

World Day of Prayer – “I beg you, bear with one another in love.” The Christian Women of Palestine are calling us to connect with the land from where Jesus came; where he was born, ministered and died – and from where our faith began and is rooted. Despite living in an area of the world where there is dreadful conflict and the future is uncertain, the women of Palestine are sharing with love a reminder that they are there, and they want to give hope to everyone. The theme of the service this Friday ‘bear with one another in love’ seems very appropriate for these women who will not give up witnessing the love of Jesus Christ. World Day of Prayer is an international, inter-church organisation led by women which enables us to hear the thoughts of those women from all parts of the world: their hopes, concerns, and prayers. Our local gathering will take place at Emmanuel Church at 2 pm this Friday and we are encouraged more than ever, given the circumstances, to go along and join with the whole world in prayers for peace and reconciliation between Palestine and Israel. Loving God, walk with us as we journey through the land where you lived and taught. Open our eyes to see the present suffering of the inhabitants of this land. Grant us the strength and courage to act and pray with all who suffer around the world. Amen. Please remember in your prayers: Tony Ryan, Louise Clark, Rev Martin Keighley, Mark Price, Craig Abson, Peter Holden, Alan Morris & Rev Jane Everett. Please also remember the families and friends of, Colin Cook, Christine Jenkinson and John Richardson who have recently passed to glory.
