It is our tradition on this day to remember our loved ones before God as a reminder they are loved by God in death as in life. There is a sheet at the back of church for you to append the name(s) you wish to be remembered. Later that evening, the families who have been bereaved in the last twelve months and to whom the Vicar has ministered, have been invited to a memorial service in church, during which their loved ones will be remembered by name too. We offer up remembrance: those whose absence we feel daily; those who have shaped us;those who have nurtured us; the people we are grateful to have walked with; all those we hardlyknew but wished we’d known better. We give thanks for all they gave and all the future owes them.Lord, your love embraces every person who has ever lived; you promised that you lost none.May your Spirit make us always thankful for all our gifts of love and cherished memory.Christmas Fair: The Fair will take place on Saturday 3rd December, and we already have a number of stalls booked by the members of the community which is a great opportunity to meet and welcome new faces. The raffle tickets for the grand draw are just about ready to be distributed and we hope everyone will endeavour to sell some for us, particularly to friends and family beyond the church. That said, once again we’re asking for your help in providing some amazing raffle prizes, bottles for the tombolo and gifts for our Christmas Stall. Are you Confirmed? Those of us who were baptized as infants have usually had the opportunity to confirm those promises for ourselves at a special service of confirmation, at which a Bishop is present. If you haven’t been baptized or if you have been baptized but not confirmed and would like to discuss this further, then please speak to the Vicar as soon as possible. 100 Club – Winners last week were Dorothy Cox, Shirley Kershaw and Barbara Quirk. Please remember in your prayers – Rev Jane Everitt, Tony Hardman, Rev Martin Keighley, Gillian & Elizabeth, Graham Armstrong, Cliff Turner, Chris Kelsall and Cath. Please also remember the families of Hilda Jenkinson, Denis Armitage, Marie Woods, and Ella Laverick whose funerals are due to take place.

On Sunday the day started with our usual round of services. The 10.45 service was packed with lots of new faces including our Rainbow Pack, families, leaders and helpers. The church looked beautiful, thanks to all your gifts of produce and Carole’s fabulous Harvest flower arrangements. Phil delivered the sermon with help from “Arthur and Grandad,” (Phil and David our gifted puppeteers). Countless folk have commented on how much they enjoyed the mix of fun, fellowship and reverence as we worshipped together, giving thanks to God for the abundance of the Harvest and the blessings we have received.Following the service many of us joined together for a roast dinner and Harvest Auction in the Broadway Rooms. Hats off and massive thanks to Tim, ably assisted by Judith, who together produced an amazing meal for 40 people and also to Joanne and David who set up the dining room so beautifully and arranged the hampers and gifts for the auction. Hours of work and preparation go on behind the scenes to make these events run smoothly and we are forever grateful to all who contribute in any way to the life of God’s Church here at St Nic’s. The proceeds from Harvest Sunday amounted to £475 and will be sent to the Diocese in support of the Bishop’s Harvest Appeal, which this year is supporting the work of the Mothers’ Union Literacy and Numeracy Project in Burundi. Are you confirmed? Our theme was “With God all things are possible” based on the miracle of the feeding of the five thousand. It was well attended by many of the Little Gang families and friends. Hats off to Janet and her team of helpers and puppets!Raise the Roof Concert: What a night we had! The concert on Saturday night in Church was a great success. Through the ticket sales, the raffle and donations at the interval we raised a magnificent £1000. Sincere thanks go to Shirley Eracleous, The Dream Team Singers and Harmony & Health for performing such a wonderful repertoire. Also, to everyone who supported us on the evening and before-hand with ticket sales and raffle prizes. And finally, to Joanne, David and their helpers who hosted the evening on our behalf. Well done everyone!Defibrillator Training: Please come on Monday this week at 6 pm to the Jubilee Room. We have arranged for some basic training and it would be good if as many of us a possible could attend. If you need a lift, please just shout!Christian Bookshop: is now based in Christ Church Thornton on Meadows Avenue. It is open Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. There’s also a coffee shop. Why not give it a visit?Roof Repairs: Work is due to start again on the roof this coming week! We have also taken steps to repair and treat the wooden cladding on the South end of the church. These repairs are only made possible due to the ongoing generosity of so many of you. We are doing our best to preserve our magnificent building for future generations and we are forever grateful for your help. Giving God, we receive so much from you, and therefore have much to give. Help us toshare in the blessings of giving as well as the happiness of receiving, that your love may be more widely shared through Jesus Christ our Lord. We will be able to report next week how much we managed to raise.Harvest Sunday 9th October: Following our Harvest worship together, we will be serving a Roast Pork Dinner in the Broadway Rooms, followed by our famous Harvest Auction! We are charging £8 for lunch (£5 for children) and the proceeds from the day will be donated to the Bishop’s Harvest Appeal. This year the Diocese is supporting the work of the Mothers’ Union Literacy and Numeracy Project in Burundi. As one of the poorest countries on earth, with the majority of people living on less than £1.50 a day, by giving what we can, together we can make a significant difference to the lives of people in Burundi who are in desperate need. There are envelopes available at the back of church for donations. We will still receive the usual harvest gifts of dried foods, tins etc., some of which will be auctioned on the day. Items not included in the auction will go to the foodbank. Defibrillator Training: Save the date, Monday 10th October 6 pm in the Jubilee Room. Since we have a defib on site several folk have asked how to use it. We have arranged for some basic training and it would be good if as many of us a possible could attend. If you need a lift, please just shout!Christian Bookshop: As you'll probably know, over recent years Christian bookshops have closed in many places: Preston, Lancaster, Blackburn, and at the end of last year CLC Bookshop in Blackpool. This is the pattern around the country. Fear not! After much preparation and in a room at Christ Church, there is now a bookshop and giftshop offering a range of books, gifts and CDs. The shop is called the 'Meadows Books' and is open Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. It's run by volunteers and payment can be taken by contactless, chip and pin, or cash. There’s also a coffee shop. Why not give it a visit?100 Club – Winners last week were John Quirk, Elsie Mathias, and Amelia Quirk Please remember in your prayers – Rev Jane Everitt, Tony Hardman, Rev Martin Keighley, Gillian & Elizabeth, Graham Armstrong, Cliff Turner, Chris Kelsall and Cath.
