It was the end of the Easter school holidays and our theme was ‘The message of Easter’. We did artwork, crafts and planting seeds on the topic of ‘new life’ . We looked at the tradition of Easter eggs, and even cracked some real eggs! All followed by party games and party food. All school age children with parent / carer welcome. Our next meeting is Friday 12th May, 6.30pm at The Refectory The girls posed for this picture with plant pots of sunflower seeds and pop up cards they made Cracking real eggs!
On Maundy Thursday, Reverend Lesley joined other Priests of the Diocese to renew their vows at the Cathedral. Also on Maundy Thursday there was a traditional service of Footwashing and Holy Communion at St John’s. This year it was a humbling experience to wash feet and to strip the altar At St Anne’s parishioners ate a simple supper in The Refectory and then remembered Jesus’ Last Supper as Holy Communion was celebrated. On Good Friday, at St Anne’s, there was a reflective service with meditations and contemporary Christian music, as we watched by the Cross for the last hour before Jesus died. At St John’s, there was a wonderful service of choral music and Scripture readings as we recounted Jesus’ journey to the Cross. Thank you to the choirs of both our churches and also those of Burnley and Pendle DeaneryEaster Sunday We celebrated the first Holy Communion of Easter at dawn in the Garden of Remembrance at St Anne’s. It was a beautiful morning, filled with soft light and birdsong and this photo captures the stillness and peace of early morning. At St John’s, the Sanctuary was beautifully decorated with white lilies, the Easter Cross and Paschal candle for our main service at 9.30amAt St Anne’s. the Sanctuary had the Cross of Lilies and there was an Easter Garden, with the stone rolled away for our service at 11am.
Our project is making good progress and we hope with funds raised, we will add two more planters. The space is a continuation of The Refectory, which itself is an extension of our main church building. The rainbow theme continues with our tables and coloured planting. There is a ‘hidden’ quiet corner with pebbles and water for prayer and refelection. The Refectory – feeding body and soul Look out for future events ‘al fresco’ as we celebrate and give thanks for all God gives us. Do come to our service this Sunday at St Annes to hear more about The Refectory and The Walled Garden
The IC Values Statement We believe an inclusive church celebrates and affirms every person and does not discriminate. We will continue to challenge the church where it continues to discriminate against people on grounds of didsability, economic power, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, learning disability, mental health, neurodiversity, or sexuality. We believe in a Church which welcomes and serves all people in the name of Jesus Christ; which is scripturally faithful; which seeks to proclaim the Gospel afresh for each generation; and which in the power of the Holy Spirit, allows all people to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Jesus Christ.
