About Us
The historic mother church of Elland has served the people of this community for over 800 years. You will be assured of a warm welcome to our various events and services. We are working towards a vision of a living Church, growing on a foundation of stones steeped in prayer.
The heart of our Christian Life is the Holy Eucharist, as we celebrate the presence of our Risen Lord.
This Grade 1 Listed building has a Community Room under the tower, with Kitchen and Accessible Toilet facilities.
The tower has a ring of 8 bells, well known as one of the best in the area. We regularly welcome visiting ringers from all over the country.
Our work with children and young people includes a Sunday School, Playgroup, Out of School Club, Parents and Toddlers and Uniformed Organisations. Appropriate Child Protection procedures are followed.
If you would like to know more about arrangements for Baptisms, Weddings or Funerals, for special services to mark an Anniversary, a House Blessing, or the use of our Buildings and Community Space,then please contact us.
We are a Fairtrade Church, committed to using Fairtrade Tea and Coffee at all meetings for which we have responsibility, and exploring and encouraging the use of other products.
S.Mary's is one of two Parish Churches within the United Benefice of Elland, belonging to the Church of England, and to the Anglican/Episcopal Communion. A new arrangement, forming the Parishes of St Mary's, Elland, and All Saints, Elland, together forming a United Benefice, came into being on September 1st 2012. You can find out about our sister Church of All Saints, by following the links on this site.
Our Parish is linked with the Parish of Nyasura, in the Diocese of Mara in Tanzania.
The S.Mary's Prayer:
Lord, help us to build your Church in Elland,
not of stones but of people,
with faith and love, hope and unity;
to increase your Kingdom on earth,
and to do your will today and always.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
