Our Churchyard

St James Churchyard

This has been a CLOSED CHURCHYARD since 2008 due to lack of space. It may look empty in places but we can assure you there are burials in all areas. As a closed churchyard the council (Medway Council at present) is required to maintain it and cut the grass. We are still able to offer cremation internments in a designated area but this is becoming increasingly difficult due to the actions of others reducing spaces available.

Volunteers have kept the area tidy in between council visits but they have been very busy themselves and not visited for some time and the weather is also a factor when organising work here. As a consequence, the area occasionally looks unkept.

Church regulations in regard to what can and what cannot be placed in any churchyard are available on line or to view in the church porch.

Please be reminded that plastic is not permitted.

Bins are available for rubbish and we would remind all that the brown bins are for recycling waste and black bins are for rubbish.
