Beer and Hymns
When it was considered too frivolous to sing hymns in church, it was the taverns and other places of public entertainment which kept the tradition alive. Later on, when hymn singing in church became popular again, the melodies of popular songs very often provided the inspiration for hymn writers. “Why should the devil have all the best tunes?” they asked.
In acknowledgement of this history and in celebration of St Michael’s Patronal Festival, we’re holding a hymn fest in the church hall on Saturday 30th September @ 7.30 pm in the Church Hall. Come and have a good sing. Bring your own beer or other drink and maybe some nibbles to share. All welcome.
