Baptism

If you are looking for baptism either for yourself or a child there are three important questions from the service to ask yourself.

• Do you reject the devil and all rebellion against God?

• Do you renounce the deceit and corruption of evil?

• Do you come to Christ, the way, the truth and the life?

The Vicar will ask you (or the parents and godparents on behalf of a child) to make these and other important declarations. They will pour water on the head of the person to be baptised. Water is a sign of washing and cleansing. In baptism it is a sign of being washed free from sin and beginning a new life with God.

Baptisms normally take place during the main Sunday service on the third Sunday of the month. This is so that the person being baptised – adult, child or baby - can be seen to be joining the family of the Church and be welcomed into membership.

Confirmation

If you are baptised and would like to consider confirmation, please contact the Vicar.

Confirmation marks the point in the Christian journey at which taking part in the life of God’s people begun at baptism is confirmed by the bishop by the laying on of hands. At Confirmation, those who have been baptised affirm for themselves the faith into which they have been baptised and their intention to live a life of responsible and committed discipleship. Through prayer and the laying on of hands by the confirming bishop, the Church also asks God to give them power through the Holy Spirit to enable them to live in this way.
