About Us
We are Christians and we believe that we have been called by God to follow and serve him. We attempt to do that through our interaction with our neighbours in the parish, through trying to show something of God's love to everyone through our actions, and by coming together in church to praise God, who knows us by name and has loved us from all eternity.
We also believe that, as Christians, we should work closely with our brothers and sisters of all the other churches in Gillingham, whether Anglican or of other denominations.
We believe that there is only one God, a God who is loving enough to have humbled himself to come down on earth as a man, to live as ordinary mortals do and ultimately to suffer an excruciating death on a cross. That man was Jesus Christ.
Jesus he was no ordinary man. He was both God and man and because of that he overcame death and rose again on the third day. His death (which he underwent in order to save us from our sins) and resurrection (which gives us the hope of eternal life) are at the very heart of the Christian faith.
So we believe in a loving, compassionate God who understands our human condition, our frailty and our vulnerability and who goes on loving us in spite of our
waywardness.
Our patron saint, Mary Magdalene, was called by Jesus by name following his resurrection and she obeyed his command. As it tells us in the Bible, 'Jesus said to her, "Mary." She turned towards him and cried out in Aramaic, "Rabboni!" (which means Teacher). Jesus said, "Do not hold on to me... Go instead to my brothers and tell them..." Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: "I have seen the Lord!"' [John ch. 20, vv 16-18]
If you would like to explore our faith further, the Church of England website is an excellent place to start and offers a wealth of material to reflect upon. If you would like to speak to a member of the Ministry Team here at St Mary Magdalene, they can be contacted through our priest in charge whose contact details can be found on the Home Page. Or, better still, why not come along to one of our regular services; you will always find a warm welcome.
