These are Lent & Easter events this year.

Lent Group

Occurring
Every Thursday at for 1 hour
Venue
Westbury Methodist Church
Address
Station Road Westbury, BA13 3JL

We are encouraged to put down deep roots of hope by connecting with God who is with us at all times. In Lent we journey with Jesus on the difficult and thorny road that leads all the way to the cross on Good Friday – and beyond, to the transformation of Easter Day.

God invites us to bring to him our own journey through everyday life. In the disappointment of daily setbacks and the pain of deeper hurts, we discover that God is present with us. And God promises a future where all things are healed and made new.

Living Hope offers us the opportunity to deepen our hope in God and be part of what God is doing to bring hope in the world.

The readings and reflections explore how we can have hope in times of frustration or uncertainty; the hope found in joining with others; the invitation to notice signs of hope around us; the courage to face reality and pursue a hopeful future; and the ways God transforms death into life at Easter.

We are hoping that people from across the Westbury Area Churches Together will join together for this year’s Lent groups. They will start w/c 3 March and there will be six sessions.
There will be free booklets available to accompany the meetings which have been purchased by WACT. The material is also available to download from the Church of England website nearer the time. You can receive daily reflections in your inbox throughout Lent.

There will be an introduction to the material at our Ash Wednesday service of Holy Communion at 7.00 pm at All Saints church on Wednesday 5th March for all who are able to come.

We have three groups this year which will meet across the Westbury Area. Please sign up for your preferred group using the sign up sheet in our churches, or by emailing [email protected].

Team Service for Palm Sunday

Occurring
for 1 hour
Venue
Westbury Leigh: Holy Saviour
Address
Westbury Leigh Westbury, BA13 3SQ, United Kingdom

We are planning a special Team Service on Palm Sunday this year at Holy Saviour church, Westbury Leigh. There will be no other services in our churches that day. We look forward to gathering together as members of different churches but part of one Team. This will be a service of Holy Communion during which we remember our Lord’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem and hear the story of his suffering and death. Palm crosses will also be blessed and distributed.

We shall be taking a collection at this service for our link partners in Maridi, South Sudan. We heard at a recent Deanery Synod meeting that they have suffered from terrible wildfires there recently which have destroyed a number of buildings and homes. They are appealing for our support. If you would like to contribute towards this appeal, please come prepared. It would be much appreciated.

Please note the start time of the service. This is to allow time for everyone to arrive and to get ready for the service. It would be lovely to see all our banners on display! Please arrange to bring your church banner with you.

We hope to make this a special start to Holy Week.

Look forward to seeing you there!

Maundy Thursday Evening service of  Holy Communion with foot-washing

Occurring
for 1 hour
Venue
All Saints' Church Westbury
Address
Churchyard, off Market Place Westbury, BA13 3DA, United Kingdom

Traditionally, we hold a service of Holy Communion on Maundy Thursday evening to remember the last supper that Jesus shared with his disciples before his arrest and crucifixion. We also re-enact the washing of his disciples’ feet during this service and remember his command to love one another as I have loved you. We conclude the service in silence by removing all the hangings and decorations in church, ready for Good Friday. This is a moving service and I hope many will come and be part of it.

We shall be joining with our brothers and sisters from Westbury Area Churches Together, for an open air service in Westbury town centre, at the rotunda. We shall be reminded of the last events of Jesus’ life in song and readings and with prayer. It is an opportunity for us to witness to our faith on this important day in the Christian calendar and to be reminded of what Jesus’ death means to us. There may also be some hot cross buns!

Hope to see you there.
