The Diocese of Salisbury put forward a draft scheme to form two new benefices. This proposal was out for public consultation from 26 October until 2 December 2024. Sadly, there has been a representation against the proposed scheme sent to the Church Commissioners, so the Commissioners are now seeking the views of the Bishop concerning the proposed pastoral reorganisation. A file of relevant information regarding the parishes is being collated for consideration at a meeting of the Commissioners. The Commissioners may decide in committee to proceed with the proposed pastoral reorganisation regardless or they may decide to hold a hearing at which the person making representation may speak. The respective Parochial Church Councils (PCCs) are disappointed that such a representation has been made to the Church Commissioners. A Steering Group comprising someone from each of the PCCs in the proposed Upper Chase has been meeting since March 2024 in anticipation that the transition to become the Upper Chase would be seamless. This representation to the Church Commissioners may delay - or even halt - the legal formation of the Upper Chase and it is unlikely that a decision will now be made before the spring. The Parochial Church Councils of Sixpenny Handley with Gussage St Andrew, Chettle, Farnham, Pentridge and Tollard Royal eagerly anticipate the legal formation of the Upper Chase benefice, so that we can continue in our joint endeavours to make Jesus known.
As of 4 July, this benefice, along with the two other benefices of Sixpenny Handley with Gussage St Andrew & Pentridge and Pimperne, Stourpaine & Durweston with Bryanston are undergoing pastoral reorganisation. It is the intention to create 2 new benefices with the churches as listed below.
