God of Truth

help us to keep your law of love

and to walk in ways of wisdom

that we may find true life

in Jesus Christ your Son

On a day when I am not writing a sermon on the lectionary readings so do not have one to send out (I will be taking a baptism on Sunday) I was delighted to find this is the alternative Collect for the day, which provides ample scope for pondering and reflection. If you are not able to get to a church service this weekend, it might be very good to make this a reflective prayer.

The keeping law of love, the ways of wisdom and true life are very profound things for which to be praying. I wonder which attracts you most - a desire for love, to love and be loved; for wisdom - that inner knowing which is more than cleverness and knowledge. Perhaps the true life we receive in Christ is the integration of love and wisdom. Is that something to take time to speak to God about in the time you might otherwise have read my sermon?
