Saturday July 6th started windy and rainy - not the best weather for a BBQ but it cleared away and by early afternoon the sun shone brightly. It was not without other problems though as gazebo parts were missing(they disappear over the winter...who know where or how? Yes you know what I mean - over to plan B. Well soon the aroma of cooking burgers and sausages filled the air around our churchyard and people came through the gate, ready with rumbling bellies, to savour the juicy food available. Some visitors were brave enough to sit in the sunshine others chose to eat inside - just in case it rained again. They all said the food was delicious - and well cooked - no burnt bits (though I do love a well burnt BBQ sausage) . Chatter and laughter joyfully pervaded the church and grounds. A written quiz gave people a chance to look around the church inside and out to find answers to the quiz questions- in doing so finding out more about our church. Yes we had a raffle - it has to be done. The first number drawn was the vicar's - was there unknown intervention we wondered.? There was competition on this day from Wimbledon tennis matches and England's football match - but thankfully people turned out to help us raise a bit more cash for our 'oh so poor' church roof.
Thank you so much to all our 'helpers'
