It's origins are unknown but there is evidence
that a church has been on the site since the 13th
century. At the corner of the tower is still the
base of a 13th-century preaching cross that is a
National Scheduled Monument. It is Grade I
listed, with an elaborate, tall west tower with
fine large gargoyles. The south aisle has high-
quality masonry and fittings and is associated
with the Pine-Coffin family, a member of whom has
been patron since 1297. The church is
acknowledged to be one of the most beautiful in
north Devon with an ongoing and energetic
ministry to a predominantly agricultural
community.
