The Ben Holder Quartet was due to play at Alvestock last summer and they are coming again to wow us. If you were lucky enough to hear Ben play in the village hall on the Saturday of the postponed festival, you will know you're in for a fantastic treat. To book tickets please email [email protected] or call 07901985622 and leave a message if you don't get an answer. Tickets cost £18 each. There will be a pay bar and filled rolls to purchase. All profits will go to St Peter's Restoration Fund.
Ben Holder [34] is the most acclaimed and exciting jazz violinist in the UK. His classical studies began at the age of six and were complemented by training at the Birmingham Conservatoire. An introduction to jazz came in his early teens – classic masters such as Benny Goodman, Oscar Peterson and Stephane Grappelli – and led Ben to truly find his place as a musician.
Ben possesses an innate sense of swing rhythm (something which often eludes classical players), breathtaking technical ability and true showmanship on stage. He offers flawless musicianship, heaps of energy and personality and a visible passion for his craft.
Ben's accolades and performances bear testimony to these abilities. Often playing across the UK, Europe and further afield, he is the first-call jazz violinist for many of the country's top venues, line-ups and studios.
Having kick-started 2024 with three sold out shows in the Hamburg Philharmonic Hall, alongside full-house theatres in France, an evening with this incredible musician and raconteur is something not to be missed!

Alvescot St Peter

Welcome to St Peter's Church, Alvescot.

We hope you will enjoy visiting our church which reopened for our Harvest Festival on Sept 17th 2023 after two years of closure due to structural issues with the roof timbers. The church building will be open for services and we hope to have visiting times on Saturdays, too, so please look at our news or events section for details. We are really looking forward to being able to host baptisms, weddings and funerals once more - these important markers in family life are special times. Please use the contact details for our Benefice Administrator, Trish, given under the Get in Touch section of the menu, or come to a service and chat to one of the Churchwardens, Jayne or Jenny. We look forward to meeting you.

You can find out about local events including services from noticeboards in the churchyard and church porch. Please visit our Benefice website which gives more details about the church at https://svbb.org.uk/alvescot/ and take a look at the guide here: https://www.cotswolds.com/dbimgs/Church_Alvescot%20guide.pdf

To find out more about our church services and other events and news please click on the menu.

The church porch is a great place to shelter from hot sun or rain when you're out on a walk. You are welcome to park in the car park and picnic under our ancient oak tree. There are many footpaths around the village and you can enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the graveyard as part of them. You may enjoy a short circular walk down the ancient path behind the church to join Mill Lane again after crossing Old Court, the site of the original village. From there you can see the aircraft taking off from RAF Brize Norton. The meadows around the area are full of wild flowers in spring and summer and our graveyard is managed to promote wildlife.
