St Sylvester's Church, Chivelstone

St Sylvester's is a very old and special church with wonderful heritage features, it is named as place in the Domesday Book. It is not known when the earliest Christian Activity at Chivelstone occurred but a church is known to have been 0n the site by the end of the 13th Century and the earliest incumbent recorded in 1292.

In 2020 St Sylvester's Church underwent a major restoration with the help of funds received from he National Lottery a grant totalling £384,300.00 as well as fundraising from other sources. This project focused on water/ weather proofing the church to safeguard and preserve its medieval heritage and allow it to be used by the whole community, in the forms of open days, community events, concerts plays etc as well as continuing the religious life of the Church

All our welcome and encouraged to enjoy our church whether that be for worship, events, community or to observe some of the church's rare features; such as the rood screen from 1536, and wall paintings uncovered during the restoration project thought to be from the late 17th/ early 18th century.
