St Winwaloe's
Welcome to St Winwaloe's Church, East Portlemouth, in the beautiful South Hams of Devon.
We continue to move, post-Covid and now we have a new priest and an expanded Benefice, back towards weekly services in the church. However, this has not been possible as yet. We are able to hold at least two services a month, usually on the first and third Sundays, so look at our Calendar for coming services.
With the closure of our building, and some people not being able to give due to the financial impact of the pandemic on them, we cannot receive all the gifts that we usually would, so we really need your help now. If you are able to give more at this time, we would be very grateful for your online donation, which you can do through our webpage at: bit.ly/3XHFCrQ
The parish of East Portlemouth, St Winwaloe's, is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officers, (PSOs). The Diocese of Exeter’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advise our PSOs. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the DSA. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority Children or Adults Services.
Thank you.
Our Vision
God calls us and gives us grace to use the gifts He has given us to grow as a loving and Christ-centred people, faithful in worship, rejoicing in differences, open to the gifts of the Spirit and working as His servants in our communities.
God calls us and gives us grace
We will be open to His voice however it may come to us. Through His strength we will do His work.
To use the gifts he has given us
We rejoice in the many gifts that God gives us. We will use our individual and collective talents to reach out, to serve and communicate the Christian faith to others.
To grow as a loving and Christ-centred people
We will grow in our common worship, deepen our understanding of our faith and draw others into our Christian fellowship. We will foster good relations with other Christians in sharing our journey of faith.
Faithful in worship
We worship the one God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. As the only Anglican Church in East Portlemouth, we will offer worship for all age groups in Liturgy and Sacrament, in Praise and Prayer.
Rejoicing in differences
We acknowledge and value our different experiences of God. This diversity is a strength to be cherished and supported. We will explore and embrace the richness of faith as understood in a variety of ways in the Church. We rejoice that we are loved as we are, with all our imperfections and at every stage of faith, forgiven and enabled to fulfil our potential as His people.

St Peter's
The church of St Peter’s is Grade II listed and was built as a Chapel of Ease in 1778 for the manor house of the Buckland Estate. It fell into disrepair in the early part of the nineteenth century and was reopened after restoration in 1890. The churchyard is still in use for burials. The church is kept open all day and is regularly visited by walkers who from the comments in the visitors’ book appreciate its peace and quiet.
A service is normally held in the church every Sunday, either a Sunday Worship Service or Holy Communion with a joint service in one of the churches of the Benefice when there are five Sundays in the month. We celebrate the four country services of Plough Sunday, Rogationtide, Lammastide and Harvest Thanksgiving. We have one regular organist and two services a month are led by lay members of the congregation incorporating an audio recording of the Rev Mark Neave’s sermon for that week. The church is a Fairtrade Church and supports Christian Aid; Médecins Sans Frontières; The Mission to Seafarers; British Legion; The Farming Community Network; Prison Fellowship; Coleridge Community Bus; Kingsbridge and Saltstone Caring; the Kingsbridge Food Bank; and St Luke's Hospice.
