Gospel of Luke Study Group

Occurring
Monthly. Every Third Friday at for 1 hour, 30 mins
Venue
St John's, Bridgetown
Address
Bridgetown Totnes, TQ9 5AE, United Kingdom

Did you know that the Gospel of Luke has more of Jesus' parables in it than the other three gospels? Welcome to the 3rd gospel with its portrait of Jesus the story teller and its emphasis on social justice and prayer.

The Friday evening Bible Study Group takes a slow and deep approach to scripture, based in lectio divina, giving attention to all levels of the text: the narrative and historical, the ethical, the symbolic and the mystical.

You don't have to read out loud unless you want to, in fact the only requirement is an open heart and an open mind.

The session runs for an hour and a half and for those who want to there is an opportunity to socialise at the Albert afterwards.

St John's, Bridgetown

St John’s is located near the River Dart in Bridgetown and is a real hub for our local community, first and foremost with our Sunday service including a Sunday club for children. Every Monday is our parent and toddler group during term times. We host a weekly awarding winning pay what you feel community cafe very Wednesday which includes mindfulness crafting, Citizens Advice South Hams and a knit and natter table. St John's also houses Stepping Stones Food and Wellbeing-the local food bank which runs a fortnightly art class, weekly craft sessions alongside their Warm Hearts Cafe which is by donations. We also have a community choir practicing every Wednesday run by our musical director.

A great community building used by locals for regular exercise classes, yoga, aikido for children and adults, music groups and choirs, a place for meetings and a beautiful venue for concerts using our worship area.

A weekly sacramental service is held and undertaken in compliance with common worship but without a choir. See below in our What's On Calendar.

Services are less formal which offers young families a space to worship in peace while their little ones enjoy the bright but calming space. We facilitate a great number of activities that promote a healthy mind, body and spirit for adults and children within the community. Find all the details for these events and more in the calendar below.

St John's has developed a friendly, informal and flexible style of worship that is truly unique and inviting. All are welcome through our doors and we look forward to meeting you. We are open most days in the week, so do pop in and see what's going on.
