About Us
Having been a sacred place at the heart of the community of South Zeal for many generations, then derelict after the the Reformation in the 16th century, then a school, St. Mary's is once again a place of prayer, hospitality and worship.
Our small and beautiful building is Grade II* listed, within the parish of South Tawton and its sister church is St Andrew's (see separate listing). Like all our churches in the Whiddon Mission Community, St Mary's is open during daylight hours and you are most welcome to visit, whatever your tradition or spiritual journey.
Regular worship includes SoulSpace, every Tuesday 11am-11.30am, which offers time of reflective prayer and meditation and also our service of Holy Communion (Common Worship), usually on the 4th Sunday of each month at 11.15am. Small groups meet in both South Zeal and South Tawton for fellowship, discussion and learning more about our faith - find out more by contacting Julz at the Whiddon Office on [email protected]. Other events happen at St Mary's, too, like concerts, Folk Festival teas & storytelling and visits from our local primary school.
St Mary's is a member of the Small Pilgrim Places Network and all are welcome here. Our little church is now licensed for weddings too - if you would like to know more, please contact Lucy Shields on [email protected]
We hope that you might visit us and be encouraged by what the Holy Spirit is doing here in our community.
