About Us
St Mary's, Throwleigh, is a beautiful village church set on the north-eastern slopes of Dartmoor. It has a rich history and there are many interesting features from both the pre-Reformation era - such as the Easter Sepulchre - and the Anglo-Catholic tradition which shaped its more recent past until the mid-Twentieth century. Look out for the increasingly famous Three Hares roof boss (not rabbits : ) We have recently formalised our long-standing links with our sister church and now form the one parish of 'Gidleigh with Throwleigh'.
St Mary's continues to be at the heart of this small rural community, hosting our local sub-post office twice a week, which would otherwise have disappeared four years ago. As well as different types of worship (usually 11.15am 2nd Sunday each month plus festivals) and community events, we host various concerts and are open every day of the year. Our churchyard is a haven for many species, not least after years of careful management to promote bio-diversity - all part of the 'community of Creation'. We are a FairTrade church. If you would like to be married here please contact Liz our weddings co-ordinator on [email protected]
We belong to a growing family of Anglican churches here in West Devon called the North Dartmoor Parishes, where everyone is welcome. For Jesus, there are no 'outsiders'; the same for us.
Weekly worship is available online; find the Youtube channel 'Chagford Church Online for the North Dartmoor Parishes' www.youtube.com
