What to expect

If you are thinking of coming to a Sunday service at All Saints’ you may have some questions about what it will be like. We hope this page will help to answer them and make your visit as pleasant as possible.

Which service should I come to?

We normally have two services on Sundays, in the morning at 10:30 am and in the afternoon at 4:00 pm. Both services attract a diverse range of people but children and young people are particularly catered for at the 10:30 service.

When should I arrive?

We suggest arriving 10 or so minutes before the service begins; earlier if you want a car-parking space. Come in to the link through the doors from the car park. Apart from a few seats reserved for those on duties, you can choose to sit wherever you like in the church.

What should I wear?

Though we take worship seriously, the atmosphere at the church is very relaxed. People are friendly and there is no dress code. You’ll see some people in a suit and tie and others in a T-shirt and shorts.

What will happen?

The service will be led from the front by the Vicar or one of the church leaders. In our services, we pray to God and encourage and build one another up by singing hymns and songs. The central element of the service is listening to the Bible being read, explained and applied to life. We seek to worship God and do everything in a way that honours him.

What about children?

We love having children with us! At the 10:30 service there are usually children from babies right up to teenagers. The whole church stays together for the first part of the service and then children go to separate groups part way through. There is an area at the back of the church where parents can sit with their young children and still hear the service.

What will I have to do?

Nothing! We want you to feel at home with us; we won’t do anything to make you feel uncomfortable or embarrassed. Just sit and listen to what is said. Usually we stand to sing, and the service leader will explain when that is. You won’t be asked to say or do anything on your own.

Do I need to bring anything?

No, just come as you are!

How long does a service last?

Normally our Sunday morning services last about an hour.

What about dogs?

We allow assistance dogs in church but other dogs are not permitted inside the buildings.

Will I be asked for money?

No! We do not collect money during our services, however if you want to make a donation towards the work of All Saints’ church then there are plates available to receive your gift.

Wheelchair access? Hearing loop?

Yes and yes! The building has level access and a disabled toilet. There is a loop system for hearing aid users; for best reception, please sit near an outside wall. We have parking spaces for disabled car users. For those unable to read the words from the screen we have printed copies of the service – please ask for a copy.

What about Holy Communion?

We celebrate Holy Communion at All Saints’ on the first Sunday of the month at 4:00 pm. If you have not been to Holy Communion before then we invite you to come forward and someone will pray a simple prayer of blessing with you. The stewards will tell you where to stand – just follow the person in front of you.

If you are visiting from another church and you would normally receive the bread and wine in your home church you are welcome to receive here. As a rule, in the Anglican Church, young people would be confirmed before receiving bread and wine. However, if they wish, Christian parents can share their bread with their children. We provide non-alcoholic wine and gluten-free wafers - just ask.

What happens afterwards?

Usually our Sunday morning services are followed by refreshments in the hall adjacent to the church. Please stay and enjoy these with us.

How can I find out more about what happens at All Saints’?

Just ask anyone! – the person you sit next to, the person who welcomes you at the door or particularly anyone you see wearing a name badge.
