St Philip and St James

Escot church community is small, quite elderly and very friendly. We usually hold two services a month - one Holy Communion and one BCP Evensong - with usual attendances between 8 and 15. We are renowned for our fundraising both for ourselves and more importantly for other charities, the latter through winter soup lunches where we expect to cater for between 30 and 70 people. Escot Church is a ‘chapel of ease’ within the parish of Feniton with Escot.

The starting time changes to 4pm in the winter.

When you arrive at the church you will be welcomed and you will find a hymn book and a prayer book in the pew.

We start the service with a hymn and then say sorry to God for the things we have said and done that have hurt or wounded others or ourselves. We then say a psalm which is a poem/song from the OT that Jesus would have used in his worship. We then listen to readings from the Old and New Testaments of the Bible interspersed with two more songs from the Bible called the Magnificat and the Nunc Dimittis. There is a sermon of about 10-15 minutes and then prayers for the needs of the church, the world, our community, and those who have asked for personal prayer if they are poorly or bereaved. All this is interspersed with 3 more hymns and a retiring collection is taken for the work of the church.

The whole service lasts about 45 minutes.

Safeguarding

Our parish of Feniton: St Andrew with Escot is committed to safeguarding children, young people and adults from harm. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer (PSO). Our Diocese of Exeter’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor who advises our PSO. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the PSO, Vicky Jennings-Sanders on 07967 442595 or the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor, Costa Nassaris on 01392 294969 or 07809 339501.
