As Jesus gathered with his dearest friends and followers in the upper room, on the night before he was handed over and crucified, the shared meal and symbolic acts which he left them, and us, became a gift which unites us, challenges us, comforts us, and strengthens us. On Maundy Thursday, in a calm reflective act of worship, we recall in Communion that deeply moving fellowship meal, and our Lord’s powerful command to love one another. Jesus washed the feelt of his disciples, showing us the power of srvice and humility. In this service we repeat that symbolic act of footwashing.
