PAUL MORGAN was born in 1945. Aged eleven, he was awarded a Junior Scholarship at the Royal College of Music. In 1963, after leaving school, he gained an open scholarship to be a full-time student at the RCM. Two years later he was awarded the Organ Scholarship at Christ Church, Oxford, where he studied under Sydney Watson.
He was appointed Organist of Exeter Cathedral in 1999 having previously been Assistant Organist since 1969. Until its closure, he lectured in the Music Department of Exeter University.
Paul’s numerous organ recitals have mostly been in the West Country, but he has also given several recitals overseas. He has broadcast for the BBC and several recordings have been issued of him playing the organ of Exeter Cathedral.
After 42 years at the Cathedral, during which he worked with Lionel Dakers, Lucian Nethsingha and Andrew Millington, he retired in 2010. He was made Organist Emeritus and a Lay Canon of the Cathedral. In retirement, for several years he has played for a couple of services each month in his parish church, St Luke's, Countess Wear.
