About Us

Church of Saint John the Evangelist:  Our main church in Izmir is the Church of Saint John the Evangelist, Alsancak.  Our principal service on Sundays is the Eucharist at 10.00 am.  We use an order of service and sing hymns and songs in English.  

Church of Saint Mary Magdalene, Bornova: We also worship once a week at the lovely little church of St Mary Magdalene, Bornova.  This is usually a service of Evening Prayer, though on special days we hold the Eucharist.  If you would like to find out more about this church and the regular services there please get in touch.  

Anglicans in Izmir:  There has been an Anglican presence in Izmir since 1630, when the first chaplain came here to serve the British people who settled here for trade, industry and building the railways.  Today we are an international congregation.  We are part of the Church of England Diocese of Gibraltar in Europe.  We worship in English, using the liturgies of the Church of England.  Our main service at 10.00 on Sundays is the Eucharist.   Whether you are here to live and work, to visit our city and the amazing sites nearby, or on pilgrimage, you will be warmly welcomed at St John's.  If you have any questions, or would like to meet the Chaplain, please use details on this site or on our own website to get in touch.
