When we talk of Christ’s Ascension, we so often talk of his departure. That’s our very earthly perspective, and it leaves us just looking up at the sky. But in reality the Ascension marks a new way for Christ to be present, freed from the normal restrictions of time and place. As former Archbishop of Canterbury, William Temple, so simply put it: “Because he is in Heaven, he is everywhere on earth”.

So we can look at the world and see not only where it is weighed down by violence, mistrust, abuse, but also where it is uplifted by countless acts of love, courage and self-sacrifice. Redemption is there for the whole world and all of humanity is present to God.

For us as at Salinas, if we have the guts to be true to our ascended Lord, it means that we recognise and share in a common humanity that transcends all national boundaries and all social, racial & religious stereotypes. As an inclusive church, our loyalty to Christ means a loyalty to a vision of humankind as a single whole, endlessly varied, enriching and ascendant.

After the service, we will hold our Annual Congregational Meeting.

WELCOME TO THE SALINAS ANGLICAN CONGREGATION THIS EASTERTIDE🌾

At Easter, and for the five weeks afterwards, we celebrate the the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

When Jesus died on Good Friday, his disciples scattered - confused, fearful, without direction, without a future. But the absence of a body on Easter Sunday was altogether different. Now they saw Jesus everywhere – in the garden, on the road to Emmaus, as they fished, as they gathered together. And not as some spooky ghost of the past, but as the recognisable presence of the Son of God, risen from the dead. This is what we are celebrating this Eastertide – our God, real, alive, recognisable and present.

Martin Luther wrote: “Our Lord has written the promise of resurrection, not in books alone, but in every leaf in springtime”. He has also written that promise on every human heart.

You will find details of our services through Easter to Pentecost here.
