Baptisms

Baptism – The Anglican Church in St Petersburg always welcomes new members, celebrating new life, a new baby and a new life in Christ, with the Sacrament of Baptism normally taking place during the 4pm Sunday service. It is always preferable for the family to attend services for a while before the celebration of Baptism itself, so that the child and her/his parents begin to feel like members of the church community.

Pre-planning is also required, given that the church does not have a resident priest and therefore relies, for baptisms (& wedding blessings/wedding vow renewals), on clergy from St Andrew's, Moscow or visiting locum clergy with whom these services need to be scheduled some way in advance.

There should be at least three godparents, two of the same sex as the child being baptised and at least one of the opposite sex, and each of the godparents must themselves be baptised. Parents, if baptised, may be godparents for their own children, providing they have at least one other godparent.
