What a good thing we didn't open the church for the early Easter this year, it would have been freezing! Apart from a very few warm days, the spring on Lake Como has been cold and rainy. We were still wrapped up for our first Sunday service on May 5th and even now at Whitsun we are willing warmer weather to arrive.
The AGM was held in the church after the May 5th service with the election of two new churchwardens, Jackie and Sheryl, and a new treasurer, Simon, who has moved from the role of churchwarden that he held for the past five years. Jeannie continues as our tireless secretary along with being electoral roll officer. Thank you to everyone who offers help enabling our church to continue serving the community.
A HUGE THANK YOU to Pamela who has retired after an amazing 25 years as church treasurer. Pamela who is very much at the heart of our community is known to so many visitors, clergy and regular congregation members as a constant presence in a church that, due to the nature of its community, has seen many faces come and go over the years. We are very lucky and give thanks that she is not stepping back entirely, will stay on the church council, continue administering the chalice and helping no doubt with much else.
Our church auditor Roger King is also retiring and we thank him for his generosity over the years in carrying out this work. He couldn't be with us at the AGM, but thanks and a gift were sent.
After the AGM we shared a simple lunch at Bar Impero and warmed up!
We welcome back Robert Morley as our season chaplain. Robert will be hosting weekday online morning prayer and bible study during the summer. If you would like to join these sessions please contact Robert [email protected] for more information.
Robert is also putting together an exciting concert programme. For the opening concert on Tuesday June 25th at 6.30pm we are very lucky to be welcoming the Robinson Chapel Choir from the University of Cambridge. This evening of sacred music will include the 20th century masterpiece Duruflé's Requiem and promises to be one not to miss.
Further details of the concert programme will be posted soon on our website and include two concerts by our organist German Torre and by the local organist Mattia Calderazzo along with a contralto and violin.
