A Swiss professor for old languages (Latin, Greek, Hebrew) experiences an encounter with a young Portuguese lady that changes his life. By chance some days later he comes across a book of a Portuguese author, whose biography fascinates him. He decides to buy a ticket for the night train to Lisbon and takes up the traces of this man. This adventure turns his life upside down.
