The St Nicholas Chamber Choir will perform Maurice Duruflé’s enchanting and sublime Requiem with conductor Erik Johannes Riekko and organist Irina Vavilova in two seperate performances at Paavalinkirkko on Friday 24.03.2023 and Espoon Tuomiokirkko on Sunday 26.03.2023, both at 19.00.
A masterpiece of twentieth century music, Duruflé synthesizes authentic Gregorian chant, Renaissance inspired counterpoint, and rich impressionistic harmony to create a work of deep musical profundity and enigmatic beauty, in a style uniquely his own. Also programmed are complementary works by Arvo Pärt, Jean-Jacques Grunenwald, Thierry Escaich, and Herbert Howells.
