A PACKED HOUSE FOR THE BISHOP’S VISIT TO CAFE CHURCH
We knew there would be a good turn-out at the Winn Hall but it was especially rewarding to see the numbers from Dunsfold and Hascombe who joined together for the visit of the Rt Rev Andrew Watson, the Bishop of Guildford, last Sunday (March 10th).
The fact that it was the first Cafe Church service led by our new rector Fr Shane Griffiths just 13 days anfter his installation added to the special nature of the day. As Fr Shane quipped: “My first time taking this service and meeting my boss for the first time. No pressure then!”
The sun was shining on Dunsfold Common when the congregation arrived. We were blessed to have the wonderful Ann Beresford on keyboards and the singing was sweet and joyful for all four hymns.
It has to be admitted that Bishop Andrew is popular in these parts for his inclusive yet thought-provoking sermons. He didn’t let us down this time. It was the first Sunday of Lent so he spoke about how during Lent we should reflect on many aspects of our lives and especially aim to sink deep roots that help sustain us during the tough times. He cited the acacia tree that can survive in the most hostile desert territories because of the depth it can sink its roots to obtain water.
He also spoke about the ongoing work of the Bishop of Guildford’s Community Fund and undoubtedly helped spur support for a very worthy cause.
