On November 25 we commemorate the life of Isaac Watts. He was born in Southampton in 1674 and displayed a broad range of outstanding academic talent. He wrote educational books on geography, astronomy, grammar and philosophy which were widely used throughout the 18th Century.
But he is now best known for his hymns and include When I Survey the Wondrous Cross, Our God, Our Help in Ages Past and Jesus Shall Reign - to name but three.
He changed the style of music sung within Anglican churches - especially by the congregations. Where he led, others have followed.
