Compton: St Nicholas

Welcome to our beautiful church - open every day to welcome worshippers, visitors and pilgrims, as it has been for nearly one thousand years.

Come and join us for one of our services: Holy Communion at 10.30am (2nd, 3rd, 4th Sundays), Muddy Church at 10.30am (1st Sunday term time), Evensong (6pm, 1st Sunday) or BCP HC at 10.30am (1st Weds).

Or come and take a look around our Grade I listed, 10th Century ancient church with its tower and chancel that pre-date 1066, see the Norman graffiti, a square cell (thought to have been the home to an anchorite) and the rare double chancel.

Take a moment to step aside from the busyness of life and rest in this prayerful space.

There has been bell ringing at Compton for at least 380 years. The oldest bell in the tower was cast in 1634 and the next in 1660. There were only three bells in the tower until 1995 when four new bells were installed to make a light ring of six. They are one of the lightest sets of bells in the area and are very easy to ring.

Bell ringing practice on Tuesdays - we ring on Sundays (not 1st week) from 10 am
