Aldershot: The Church of the Ascension

The foundation stone for the Church of the Ascension was laid in 1939, the first service was held in the church on 17th December 1939 and the building was consecrated in 1945.
(The hymn 'Lift High the Cross' by Rev E.W. Leachman (written in 1944) was dedicated to the 'congregation of the Church of the Ascension, Aldershot' and was sung at the consecration of the building.)
The church building has never been completed and it could be said that we, the congregation, are still a 'work in progress'. We are a community wanting to remain available to God, such that, He can, through the work of His Holy Spirit, continue to mould and shape us into the people who are most useful to Him in building His Kingdom in our midst, and in the lives of men, women and children in Aldershot.
