We are asking for your help with this double appeal. Alzheimer’s Research UK is probably known to you and the significance of its work cannot be over emphasised. We all know of someone suffering from this incurable illness so research is the key element to finding a cure. Less well known is the sad state of our single 18th century bell, which following a five yearly inspection requires urgent restoration, not just to the bell but also to its housing. Fund raising for this has been going on for some time but we still are only a 1/3 of the way towards the required total of approximately £20,000.This auction has the full support of the regional office of Alzheimer’s Research UK, and of St Peter’s Church management. The proceeds of the auction will be split equally.We are going to be auctioning individual items as well as ‘Promises’. Even before we send out this message, we have received one wonderful promise of a box at the Albert Hall for a 2025 Prom! The previous auction we held included trips on the Broads, cake baking, Sunday lunch, delivery of heating oil and of course vouchers for restaurants, hair dressing etc. Donations are also most welcome. A catalogue will be produced and available before the Auction date of September 21st and will include a list of donors, unless advised otherwise.So, whilst we are sure you have many calls on your generosity, we do hope you will be able to help in some way. Should you know of any families affected by this awful illness please let them know of our efforts towards research for a cure. This whole idea is in part due to the bravery of one of our number within our villages. Our Sunday Club members have been doing some brilliant and fun activities over the last few weeks. At our recent Children’s Church afternoon at Barton Turf the children learnt more about the hidden treasure that Jesus spoke about. We made our own treasure and then had our own treasure hunt inside the church, and with the prizes being chocolate bars this went down very well! We even had some time at the end to make and eat our own pizzas!At our Sunday Club morning meetings at Neatishead we have looked at how we can be helping hands and we also looked at the story of Noah’s Ark, even finding time to finish with a game of Dobble!All children aged 3-11 are welcome to join us for Children’s Church and Sunday Club; it is completely free with fun games and activities; come along and see what we are doing.
On Saturday 21st September in the NVH there will be an auction of promises to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research and St Peter’s Bell restoration fund. This event will be similar to the hugely successful auction in aid of Parkinson’s Research held in 2019. So please, even at this early stage, contact either myself, Pauline Simpson or Monica Riley. The day promised to be wet and cold, it was cold but thankfully the rain held off and the temperature did not put people off from visiting the wonderful display of tulips grown by Louis and Fran Baugh at Neatishead Hall and those that provided the tent, plants, lunches, cakes and tombola at The Paddock. Thank you so much to all who helped and came along, which resulted in the magnificent sum realised at just over £1,100.
