The Benefice Choir

We are a mixed church choir of all ages and always warmly welcome new members. We lead the worship by singing at services on Sundays and at special events for Advent, Christmas and Easter.

Practice is on Thursdays during term time from 7-8pm at St Mary’s Church, Standon

We follow the training programmes of the Royal School of Church Music and sing with other church choirs in the East Herts Church Choirs Association and at Cathedrals. A service of Choral Evensong is sung each month at St Mary's at 6pm on the fourth Sunday (except December).

Recently our choir has had the privilege of singing services in Bury St Edmunds, Winchester and Canterbury Cathedrals.

Concerts

Our churches are regularly used for concerts and recitals. There are pipe organs and keyboards in our churches and a Grand Piano in St Mary's. Upcoming concerts and events:

Midweek Music at St Mary's - Fourth Wednesday in the month. A short concert at 12.30pm with refreshments available in church from 11.30am. 

Forthcoming dates for 2024/2025: 27th November, 29th January (NB 5th Wednesday), 26th February, 26th March, 23rd April, 28th May, 25th June and 23rd July. No concert in December. See below for the poster for our November concert.

Choral Evensong

There is no service of Choral Evensong in November. The Advent Carol Service is on Sunday 1st December at St Mary's. On Sunday 22nd December at 6pm we will have the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at St Mary's. The next service of Choral Evensong is on Sunday 26th January 2025 at 6pm at St Mary's.
