Charlie to have an operation:

Charlie, our curate, is due to have an operation on 27th September. Though not serious it will take a while for her to be back to full strength so she won’t be working again until December. Please pray for a full and strong recovery. This is the 3rd attempt to fix the problem!

Baptism coming up:

Later this month, at 3.00 on the afternoon of 25th September, we will be holding a service of baptism by full immersion in the river! There will be a short act of worship at the riverside (on the water meadows in Standon) before we all move back to St Mary’s. All are welcome!

Come and sing evensong:

Thank you to all who supported the Come and Sing Evensong last Sunday. It was a joyful service, much appreciated by singers and congregation alike.

Grand piano gift to St Mary's:

We are delighted that St Mary's is to receive the gift of a small second hand baby grand piano soon. The piano will arrive in church on Thursday this week after being moved from Minehead! The costs of the piano, its removal from Somerset to Hertfordshire and other expenses such as a special cover, tuning, some remedial varnishing and castors so that it can be moved easily for concerts have all been covered by donations. The piano will rest after its journey and settle in the north aisle of the church until being tuned at the end of September when the castors will be fitted and the varnish work carried out. Please talk to Michael if you wish to know more. We look forward to hearing the piano at our lunchtime concerts in October.

Knit & Natter group:

If you like knitting or crocheting, come and join us for a couple of hours in the Sargent room (at the back of Standon village hall) at 2pm usually on the 2nd Thursday of each month. Tea & cakes will be available. The next one is on 8th September 2022. For more information please contact Marion on 01920 745683.

Memorial Jazz concert 10th September 6.30 for 7.00:

A concert will be held in St Mary’s on 10th September in memory of our own Len Sparks. John Petters New Orleans Jazz Stars, who were great friends of Len’s, will play and all proceeds will go to St Mary’s. Tickets, at £10, are available from Anne, Rebecca or Caroline, or at the door.

Caroline is organising the welcome, tickets and bar team. If you’d be willing to help, please let her know.

BGWM is looking for new members:

The next meeting of the Benefice Group for World Mission will be at 2pm on Tuesday 4th October at All Saints. The group keeps up to date with news from our mission partners around the world and supports them with prayer. It brings to our attention particular prayer needs, through the ‘Pray for our mission partners and the world’ section of this sheet, and it makes recommendations to PCC about our regular appeals. They would love to see some new faces joining them. For more information, please speak to Peter A.

Plea for washing up liquid bottles:

Hazel class at Little Munden school needs empty washing up bottles for a science project later this term. If you finish one, please let Lizzy have the empty bottle!

Operation Christmas Child:

If you’re buying things for shoe boxes, this is a really good time to find stationery at bargain prices! Pens, pencils and notebooks are all reduced in the run up to our schools going back. For more information about OCC shoe boxes and what can go in them, please speak to Lizzy.

Website:

Our benefice website is on the www.achurchnearyou.com platform. The benefice page is: www.achurchnearyou.com/church/7825/benefice. Please visit it to see the range of information there.
