Weekly News - 28th August 2022

This weekend’s Bible reading:

Galatians 5:16-26 (p 1172).

Welcome to Poppy:

We welcome the family and friends of Poppy Cabot, who will be baptised today. Please pray for her, for her God-parents as they make their vows, and for her family as they support her in her new Christian journey.

Wednesday morning service:

This week, the Wednesday morning service in St Mary’s will take place in the tower room, as the church will be being used for Holiday Bible Club. Please enter by the tower door. (There will still be coffee afterwards!)

Caroline at Furneux Pelham:

Now that our friends in the Braughing benefice are in vacancy, we will be helping them out from time to time. Caroline is leading the service in Furneux Pelham this morning.

Charlie to have an operation:

Charlie, our curate, is due to have an operation on 27th September. Though not serious it will take a while for her to be back to full strength so she won’t be working again until December. Please pray for a full and strong recovery. This is the 3rd attempt to fix the problem!

Come and sing evensong:

This Sunday, 28th August at 6.30pm in St Mary's there will be a Come and Sing Evensong when our own choir will be joined by singers from other local choirs. Music will include Handel's Hallelujah Chorus. Do come and support this special service if you can.

Memorial Jazz concert 10th September 6.30 for 7.00:

A concert will be held in St Mary’s on 10th September in memory of our own Len Sparks. John Petters New Orleans Jazz Stars, who were great friends of Len’s, will play and all proceeds will go to St Mary’s. Tickets, at £10, are available from Anne, Rebecca or Caroline, or at the door.

Caroline is organising the welcome, tickets and bar team. If you’d be willing to help, please let her know.

BGWM is looking for new members:

The next meeting of the Benefice Group for World Mission will be at 2pm on Tuesday 4th October at All Saints. The group keeps up to date with news from our mission partners around the world and supports them with prayer. It brings to our attention particular prayer needs, through the ‘Pray for our mission partners and the world’ section of this sheet, and it makes recommendations to PCC about our regular appeals. They would love to see some new faces joining them. For more information, please speak to Peter A.

New home group:

Some folk have suggested that a new home group would be welcomed. So far, no particular day or time has been decided; if you would be interested, please speak to John.

Operation Christmas Child:

If you’re buying things for shoe boxes, this is a really good time to find stationery at bargain prices! Pens, pencils and notebooks are all reduced in the run up to our schools going back. For more information about OCC shoe boxes and what can go in them, please speak to Lizzy.

Website:

Our benefice website is on the www.achurchnearyou.com platform. The benefice page is: www.achurchnearyou.com/church/7825/benefice. Please visit it to see the range of information there.
