Weekly News - 21st January 2024

This weekend’s Bible readings:

Isaiah 60:1-3 (p 746) and John 3:16-24 (p 1066)

Midweek Music at St Mary's:

This month's concert is on Wednesday 24th at 12.30, when we will be welcoming back Huw Jenkins to give a concert of organ music. Huw performed as an accompanist at St Mary's at a midweek concert last year and he has also played for services covering for Michael. There has been an unexpected financial benefit from these concerts and their success is largely because of the support of the whole Benefice. You will be pleased to know that donations are now shared between all three churches to continue our shared mission and outreach.

Do come and join us for refreshments from 11.30 if you’d like to. The concert will start at 12.30 and lasts about 35 minutes.

Pop Up Shop:

Thank you to everyone for your support over the last year. £172.12 was donated to the local food bank from the profits. The pop up shop returns on Sunday 28th January after the 10.30 morning service at St Mary's, Standon. We sell a variety of fairly traded and ethically sourced products and also Christian cards and gifts. Over the next few months we shall also have some Easter cards available.

Sunday lunch at The Star:

Heather’s next Sunday lunch at The Star will be on 28th January at 12.15pm please confirm your place by phoning on 07909 065550.

Be More Informed: Palestine:

Basma will be speaking in Standon Village Hall on 3rd February at 3.00 pm on ‘Understanding the Palestinian people, their origins, culture, recent history and aspirations’. Tickets are £5 and will include tea, coffee and Levantine sweets. Although it’s ok just to come along, in order to help with setting up, it would be helpful if you would please let Sue know if you plan to attend – 01920 318674. Any profits will go to Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP).

There are fliers in our churches; please take some and pass them on to any who might be interested.

Little Angels - helpers needed:

Little Angels, our carer and toddler group in St Mary’s on Friday mornings between 9 and 11 is becoming more and more popular and we need some more helpers! All that’s required is to help with refreshments and help putting out and away the children’s equipment (it’s not heavy!). There will be a rota so it doesn’t mean every week. Please contact Basma if you can help.
