St John the Evangelist, Shirley

St John’s is a warm, welcoming and mixed community.

Supported by an enthusiastic choir, our worship is structured, yet relaxed.

Our “Growing Discipes” and “Messy Church” programmes provide fun and learning for younger children and teenagers enjoy challenging activities . We also sponsor Scouting and Guiding at all levels, with “Mothers Union” or the “Ladies Fellowship” for women and the “Friday Knights” for men.

We reach out into the community through our own Primary School, and Shirley High School as well as through “Shirley Neighbourhood Care” a group offering older and disabled people with drives to health related appointments and participating in a weekly mini-bus drive to local supermarkets and a weekly Luncheon Club.together with other ecumenical work.

We run a Sunday afternoon Tea Room offering home made cakes and cream teas and Fairtrade beverages every week

Safeguarding

We take the safeguarding and care of children and vulnerable adults very seriously at St John’s. As a church community, we are committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment for all.

St John’s has adopted the Diocese of Southwark Diocesan policies, procedures and guidelines for safeguarding children, adults who may be vulnerable, and responding to domestic abuse. These are published in the form of a manual, a copy of which is at the back of church and is also available here:
