About Us
OUR HERITAGE:
The church of St Laurence, Wormley is about 3/4 mile up Church Lane outside the main population centre of Wormley today.
Originally Ermine Street ran through this Doomsday Book community,
hence the church's location. There is little doubt that a church existed in Saxon times, probaly made of wood. At some date in
the first half of the 12th century this was replaced with a more solid construction, a part of which survives today together with
additions from following centuries.
St Laurence Church is a beautiful Grade 2* country church.
It is now part of the Parish of Broxbourne with Wormley following the coming together of the two parishes in the late 1970s, with its sister church being St Augustine's, Broxbourne.
OUR LIFE:
Faithful Bible teaching is central to the ministry of the parish, together with the encouragement of faith through Bible study
groups and a widening of our ministry thorugh commitment to the united parish.
Bible Study groups and teaching ministries are complemented by our commitment to help and support all those who come for marriage, baptisms and bereavement.
Pastoral care is an important part of our life, and we offer a Christian perspective to help people going through different stages of life.
Worship at the church is primarily Common Worship Parish Communion, with some sung liturgy.
It has a growing family service held on the first Sunday of the month. Sunday School is every 2nd and 3rd Sunday during the morning service.
The church is associated with Wormley Church of England Primary School (VC).
The Church Room back down the hill into Wormley is available for hire.
The Parish of Broxbourne with Wormley is a member of the New River Group Ministry together with the Parish church of St Catherine & St Paul, Hoddesdon and St Cuthbert's Church, Rye
Park.
We look forward to welcoming you to St Laurence.
