ROYSTON PARISH CHURCH NEWS

The Diocese's Living God’s Love Prayer

Living God, draw us deeper into your love;
Jesus our Lord, send us to care and serve;
Holy Spirit, make us heralds of good news.
Stir us, strengthen us, teach and inspire us
To live your love with generosity and joy,
Imagination and courage; for the sake of your world
And in the name of Jesus, Amen.

CONGRATULATIONS! We are delighted to announce that Ed and Alex have got engaged and pray that their plans go well and that their future shared lives are lifelong and life-giving.

CHINA AND CUTLERY: We have our harvest supper coming up…..and since our last one, we have become aware of a lack of china and cutlery in the kitchen. Do you have any you would like to donate to the Church for events? Do not have to match or be a full set….but would have to be dish washer proof please……..just bring into church and leave in kitchen. Thank you

On Sundays in the school holidays there will be no Children's Church at the 10 30am service. However there will be activities, for children with their parents, in the church and visitors are welcome too.

Children's Church restarts on 8th September at 10.30am, when all children aged 4 upwards are most welcome to join us as we discover more about Jesus.

HELP WANTED - The church will be open from 10am -4pm on Saturday 14th September as part of the nationwide "Heritage Open Days" scheme. There will be guided tours, organ and bell-ringing demonstrations, and a children's trail and activities. We will be serving refreshments throughout the day. We're seeking help to provide cakes and scones, and to serve refreshments. If you're able to help with refreshments, please could you add your name to the sign-up sheet at the back of the church. Thanks in advance.

BEDS & HERTS HISTORIC CHURCHES TRUST SPONSORED BIKE ‘N HIKE - SATURDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER 2024

Last year we in Royston raised over £ 2,000 which was divided equally between BHHCT and our own parish funds. This far exceeded the amount raised in previous years and we hope to do just as well this year. Select your own route for cycling or hiking between the churches – there are over 600 churches to choose from so make it as long or as short as you wish. Most churches will be open on the day. The Sponsorship Packs are now available and if you would like a pack, please contact Mike Maze (245606 or [email protected])

HURRICANE BERYL DISASTER APPEAL: The Diocese of St Albans are asking to respond generously to the Hurricane Beryl Disaster Appeal which will provide crucial aid – shelter, food, medical supplies, and rebuilding materials – to those who have lost everything. Donations may be given in the baskets at the back of Church on Sunday or click on Hurricane Beryl Disaster Appeal - Give A Little

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN LEARNING MORE ABOUT THE CLIMATE CRISIS AND WHAT WE CAN DO TO MITIGATE IT?

Over 102,000 people across communities, businesses, local authorities, schools and universities worldwide have undertaken "Carbon Literacy" training and made two pledges for specific actions to reduce emissions. You too can have an opportunity to undertake this free course and become an Eco Champion: the Church of England Environment Programme in conjunction with the Carbon Literacy Project has designed a bespoke training course to provide a strong grounding in carbon literacy, to equip each participant to understand the issues, present the need for action to people with differing awareness and views, and take practical steps to implement change individually and as local church communities.

The course, which is free, lasts 8 hours, and there is a chance to attend it either:

· in person 13th August at Holywell Lodge in St Albans, o

· attend it on-line with 8 hours of learning over 4 sessions (2 hours each on four Tuesdays from 17th September, 5-7pm).

It starts with the basics and has plenty scope for learning and sharing for those with much more experience. The course is accredited by the Carbon Literacy Project and includes each participant making two carbon pledges at the end of the course to receive this accreditation.

If you would like more information, please ask the Vicar or Clare Davies, who have both attended this course.

You can apply for a place via this link: Carbon Literacy training (online) by The Diocese of St Albans on cademy.co.uk or speak to Joanne if you have no computer access and we can sort  the booking on the Church laptop.
